View Full Version : Be careful with receipts around your dash / vent area

Last week I was going to work and put on my vent and heard this really loud sound on the highest setting.

I didn't hear it at all on the lower settings.

So I figured the motor for the ac / heater has started to act up.

I take it to the dealer and they listen and say somethings wrong as well.

When I went to pick it up they said there was a receipt that was in there.

They even keep the receipt to show me and I reconized it...
I had cleaned out the car before I took it to them and had not left anything.

I was just more amazed that I had a loose receipt that I somehow got in the motor.

Just be careful with any type of paper on your dash or by your vents.

I felt so stupid and my pocket was lightened $40 which he said was cut in half.

Yup. Exactly the same thing happened to me, and to other yarisworld members as well. I was sure the fan motor was dying! I took the glove box out to inspect and found a gas receipt had been sucked into the fan. Simply removed it and all was immediately back to normal.

Moral of the story: Don't leave anything loose in the glove box; the design is such that it may get sucked into the fan.

This is randomly messed up... Now I'm scared to keep spare napkins in my glovebox!

or put a filter in

That too is a great suggestion. And, it's the first thing I did for several reasons. But, even with a filter installed, something could get sucked out of the glove box, and then restrict air flow and perhaps cause the fan motor to overheat.

HAHAHA, the same thing happened to me. I had a couple of the wristbands that you get when you go to the hospital in the glove box and they ended up in my fan.

300C. It must have sucked up at least 100 napkins before blowing out a resistor and breaking the fresh air return cup. (700$ Repair Bill)

friggin Yaris should SHIP with an air filter, since, by default, it sucks the glovebox when on recirc. I have a filter in mine so no worries....

I would say this is one oversight.

Yeah I used to keep napkins in the glove box till a wad of them got sucked up into the round spinny thing that makes my car cold

Huh? Glove Box? The main box? Which one? Other space holders?

The Recirc sucks air from the glove box! :[

This should be stickied so people are careful of what they put in there.

With 3 glove boxes, my guess is the lowest one on the passenger side. I'm glad I read this as I think I'm missing my temporary title in there in less than 2 weeks ownership. Will check tomorrow. :iono:

i just got back from repairs for the same thing and it cost $100 and i'm still under warranty! shouldn't this be covered by the warranty since this is some sort of design flaw? never have i had this kind of problem with any other kind of car nor would i imagine this could ever happen.

That all sounds like BS! I always keep my stuff in Ziplocs - when I use the glovebox compartments. I recently had my faulty A/C serviced (car is 2 months old so it was all free) - and b4 they played the "paper stuck in the fan" defense - I told them about the ziplocs.
