Yeah I saw this, it says it effects 2001 models so obviously its the ECHO (for U.S.) then it says ECHO and Yaris, so I'm confused...obviously then it implies the new Yaris as well as the previous gen ECHO.   :iono:
I guess we'll see if we get a notice in the mail or something.

If its 2001 then they are probably refering to the Yaris available in the UK at that point. I didnt read anything about Yaris in the article but did see Vitz, there again, these models were same generation as our echo only.

yeah, this article is all over the place, who knows what cars were recalled? The writer of the article clearly doesn't know for sure.

well this isn't too bad, imo, when you consider that the engines that they are recalling are 5-6 years old already,
if the problem has only become apparent now, when you consider the engines are past middle age, that's not too bad.

Just wait for official word from Toyota.
But just to clear the confusion about the names, from 1999-2004 Toyota sold the Vitz hatchback in Japan. The same car is called the Yaris in Europe and Echo in Australia and North America (and probably everywhere else). The sedan version is called Platz in Japan but retained the Echo name in Australia and North America. I don't know if Toyota sold the sedan versions in Europe. This will become the Gen. 1 of this series.
On 2005, Toyota released the Gen. 2 of this series retaining the Vitz name in Japan and the Yaris name in Europe but dropping the Echo name from Australia and North America to be replaced with the Yaris brand name. Thus consolidating the Vitz brand name for the JDM while the rest of the world gets the Yaris. In the sedan version, the Platz was dropped in favor of the new name Belta for the JDM while the rest of the world used the same Yaris brand.
To summarise:
Gen. 1 (NCP10/13) - Vitz/Echo/Yaris (HB), Platz/Echo (sedan)
Gen. 2 (NCP91) - Vitz/Yaris (HB and sedan)

The fact that they are recalling a non-safety item even after most of the vehicles are out of warranty says alot about the company. No american car company would do that, you'd have to class-action sue them to get a recall.

Sorry to go off topic a little, your signature says that you have a Jade Sea Metallic "S" sedan. The toyota.com website (colors) says that JSM is not available on "S" sedans. What happened there?

No Idea, but that is what my car is....I was shocked too when the dealer told me that they had found it and that it was the only one that was a stick they could get me...I was not so sure that I wanted the color, but fell in love when I picked it up. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/2380000-2380999/2380580_6_full.jpg

I sent an email to my local Toyota service department and they said that there data base doesn't show anything about my model yaris being recalled. I have the USA 2007 yaris :) So, hopefully its not,but he said if they ever do recall anything they send you out a letter.
