I'm looking for a window shade for the front windshield that fits the Yaris well (one of the reflective ones that keeps the interior cool). I am also looking for window vent visors so I can keep my windows cracked on hot days. If anybody has these and would like to give a review it would be appreciated. By the way, this forum is awsome. It always helps if people can help each other.

Window shade is good. It can help reduce the workload of the A/C, thus pay for itself in due course. I have one.
I am also eager to find out more about window visors. The misgivings I hold include louder wind noise and increased wind resistance. They should be good for summer though.

I have had one for every car I own and it is well worth the cost. The only thing is that the Yaris has a narrow and tall windshield and I want one that fits well...........

Well, if you want one, get one:wink::biggrin:.
Mine was bought a few months ago from the Canadian Super Store. There were two sizes available, standard and big. I bet similar stores in the US, e.g. Walmart should carry the same thing.

They've had them for the sedan but just started carrying them for the LiftBack. These are the kind that just slip into the top window channel and are held in place just by tension.
I have had these on a few vehichles and they don't interfere with your windows rolling up at all in case you were concerned.
A much better look and fit.
Much better & more permanent than adhesive-attached kind.
$49.95 plus shipping.
Shipping starts at $12

http://www.weathertech.com

Tonight was an example of why these would be nice. It was 100 degrees when I went into work this afternoon.
I left the drivers window cracked because as you know, the black dash really makes the car that much hotter.
Anyway, when I left work, it was pouring down rain, blowing sideways and the drivers seat and floor was wet as well as the inside of the door.
If I had these today, I still could have left the window cracked open and got no rain inside.
I think they add a nice accent to the exterior as well as being functional.

Thanks for the very informative post above. Just visited the site. They even say the deflectors, as they call them, can help reduce wind noise. I am afraid that as snap-on items, they may be stolen easily. May be that is an undue worry.

SWNG, You won't have to worry with these type.
If the windows are up, there would be NO removing them .
The windows would have to be left down considerably to get them out/off.
They lock into the top of the window track.

I just got a windshield shade from my Toyota dealership parts dep. and it fits perfectly. It is a INTRO-TECH Windshield Sunshade modle # TT-81. I am very happy with it. It is a perfect fit with no gaps whatsoever and it cost me $20 plus tax.

Well I ordered the WeatherTech window visors today. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that wants these so I will let you all know how they work out. They are the in-channel type and they were $60.00 and they only come in smoke color.

I wonder if you can paint them and have them still look decent....as in the same color as the car....

You should call toyota and complain. There is no reason for bad customer service these days. Customers pay the bills, and if they don't realize it you should let Toyota know because it affects them too.

;) Toyota got a 3 page letter from my hubby about all the trouble we got .. they sent a note back saying sorry but glad you got the car anyway lol .. the problem is in my area i guess they cant get the cars in the first place so they arent stocking the extras, I think the can be ordered, but I can just do that on my own and try to find better prices like on TRD sparks lol ..

I am sooooo over complaining about this car lol I love the car just hate dealership lol

"If the dealership does not address your concern to tyoru satisfaction, call the Toyota Customer Experience Center at (800)331-4331. If you are hearing or speech impaired call (800)443-4999 (TDD)."

I have already started to file a complaint over the lack of ability to order WHAT I WANTED (5 speed with power package and foglights). Plus, I am looking into a class-action lawsuit over the convenience package scam that Toyota has been pulling  . Seriously, though, call the number and file a complaint.

basically, Toyota advertised a price of $10,950 (plus $615+- for delivery on MSRP, I remind you...) to FALSELY UNDERCUT the Chevy Aveo, Kia Rio, and Hyundai "blank", the Chevy Aveo being the main price competitor (since it was the second lowest and would've been first if not for Toyota's lie). And in the world of econo cars, it's all about who has the "right" to say they have the CHEAPEST econo car for sale. The "false" part comes in that Toyota doesn't even offer a base model Yaris Liftback (manual..being the cheapest..the $10,950+Delivery=MSRP). YOU CAN NOT EVEN ORDER ONE!!! i tried from 22 dealerships which all told me the same thing : Toyota will not take your special order for a base model (foglights were not important, but I did ask for the option if possible and as long as it wasn't a deal breaker). If you get a manual, you must ATLEAST get the convenience package..they dON"t EVEN COME OUT OF THE FACTORY WITHOUT THE REAR WIPER / DEFOGGER AND CD/MP3!!!! the rear wiper is in the sheet metal of the rear door..and would require a different panel..which is not impossible, but highly unlikely that Toyota did this in advance.
Worse than that, I couldn't just order a Power Package on the manual, neither!!! this would solve the problem above, since i would be getting the same rear wiper (in the sheetmetal) and MP3 player..in essence it's just a Convenience + Power options package (or Base model + Power Package if you see it from my perspective  ). Not a single dealership would take a special order for one of these , neither.. unless ofcourse i wanted the Automatic transmission then it was NO PROBLEM! (WTF?)
So..i had to spend the $690 (i can't remember the exact right now and too lazy to get my window sticker for reference) for the "optional" convenience package..but i couldn't just upgrade to the power package which is only $600 more, has the same package parts from the convenience package, and upgrades to PW, PL, PM, sweet rear seat, alloy wheels instead of steelies!!

Anyway, it's way more complicated than this, and is not really class-action'able..i'm just bitter
I just want to bring it to everyone's attention that even a company like Toyota will play games to "position themselves onto the market"..

Question. How does the window visors effect the ability to roll up the window in a manual window model. There doesn't seem to be much of a gap in the window track.

Finally got a minute to take/post a picture for you.
Installed them this past weekend.
Takes about a total of five minutes.
You have to keep the windows closed for 12 hours after install so they can seat properly.
One poster had a concern with problems rolling the windows up.
Once the VentShade has seated in the windo channel, there is a no resistance. The edge/flange that fits into the channel is super thin so care must be taken when installing.
Tension is mainly what holds them in, very tightly I might add.
They cannot be removed when the windows are closed so, they won't get stolen. . . . .

fnkngrv
07-25-2006, 10:58 AM
So then they "wrap around the top of the window when it is all the way up?

Pompeii66
07-25-2006, 11:01 AM
No, the window slips in, right up along side of it. The Ventshade is pressed against the outside of the window channel.

I've only used ventshades once. I found Weathertech to have a superior fit and NO GLUE!!! The ventshades look every bit as good but there is a difference, weathertech are flawless, at least the 5 sets I've used!

The weathertechs that fit the Yaris are flaeless as well. I have had them for a couple of weeks now and it is easier than ever to roll the windows down, perfect fit and the look factory.

Don't laugh, it's loud as any European car. There's no comparison with the very weak standard one... and I use it at least once a week coz of stupid driver/pedestrians. In fact used it twice last night.

As for "vent visor" (I presume US speak), the side visors but only available for the 4 and 5 door.

Toyota Japan ones don't cut your hands if you slide your fingers along them (coz of the way the plastic is formed and the mould it uses). Important when you're washing the car. I've had mine and survived big downpours, kept the inside dry and never had to use the A/C to demist the windows.

doh..don't remind me of cut fingers..that was the worst part about my last set on my truck. Everytime I tried to wash my windows properly, or stuck my hand out window to wave to someone I end up bleeding on myself. And it's not just a simple "papercut"..they can cut you pretty deep.

That's the difference between cheap@$$ drape moulding vs injection moulding products. I would not have any product that is drape moulded if my fingers have anything to do with it.

Injection >>>>>>>> Drape.
