Thanks. Been wondering what red would look like with my bronze wheels. Now I know. Looks clean.
Have you done anything with your drums?

Exactly, the wheels really do "pop" now that you mention it.
Hey, cali yaris, what do you think of caliper covers?

Great job.
ive been debating on weather I should get caliper covers or the caliper decals that you see on ebay. After some research ive read that the covers arent a good idea as in the long run they can cause damange
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380073586101
FTA: ( These are not caliper covers, which we do not recommend. They fit poorly as well as trapping excess heat and corrosive brake dust. This can lead to warping the brake discs and damging the caliper housing. Our decals, together with caliper paint, do not interfere with the caliper operation and allow the heat generated to be dissipated, as the factory intended )
Up to 300 degrees Fahrenheit constant temp!
(We give 9 so you have a extras for practice/mistakes)
Anyways, i ordered the caliper decals off ebay and will post up some pics once I get them on.

nice job man!! I did the same thing only I used just regular caliper paint and a lil time for mine. And on my Escort I used engine paint and did the front calipers and the rear drum. The escorts now has red brakes and my LB's I painted silver

I also used this kit, and it worked great. The trick is to really take your time with the masking and use a tiny brush for the areas that are hard to reach. Also, I removed the brake pad clips to paint around them, but you could probably just mask them carefully if you don't want to take the extra time. If you do paint them, the paint will flake off eventually, so I wouldn't.
I have a red lip on my rims, and it adds a neat touch. I suggest NOT matching the drums on the rear, unless you REALLY want a lot of color. I put another coat of satin black on my rears while they were new to prevent the stock paint from cooking off. Down here in Texas, painted drums tend to only be seen on low-quality DIY's and true show cars. I'm sure someone will contradict me, but that's how I see it. We--painted calipers can look like they came that way.

I painted my calipers just last spring. Came out beautiful, make sure to paint the drums too if you are thinking of doing this. The rust can get really ugly, especially if there are big gaps in your wheels. I wrote Toyota on mine for a little personal touch too. Came out OK, not stellar.

What is a Caliper brush? Wouldnt a set of different size brushes work just as good?

No one has painted their drums right?
If you do, you should be banned from here.

if you dont paint them they will rust. ANd it looks worse. I dont agree with the yellow ones that someone mentioned but a black repaint keeps them looking sharp.

I wouldn't paint the drums anything but black. But, we each have our own ideas about what looks good.

i thought the same about the whole black rear drums until i saw a yaris painted w/ yellow drums and calipers, he had some body work done and introduced the yellow to other parts of the car for a nice clean look.
it all depends on how you do it

I'll have to wait until spring when I switch over from winter wheels before doing mine now.
When I do paint them (red) I've been thinking about painting a little emoticon on there as well. Sure made my wife and daughter giggle.

Thanks!

Here's a fresh picture of mine and the product used. Brush painted the calipers in April 2009. Holding up pretty well, even with enduring a Canadian winter with lots of road salt and gravel.
This is 6 coats of enamel. The enamel dries in approx. 15-20 minutes, so total time to apply that much paint is under 2 hours. Only prep work was spraying the calipers with included cleaner, brush with toothbrush, and wipe dry.

Yes, I have PC'd the front calipers and rear drums. Pics obviously of the front, no pics of the gloss black rear. On the front disc I coated all that which would show a gloss black. No ill effects from the paint. I did the do-it-yourself and it lasted awhile but started to wear to quick for me. We have a local coater who works deals on occasion.

Ha, finally got around to getting this done... still sitting in the garage drying/curing. Took a little bit longer than what I thought it would but I think that it turned out pretty good. All and all, the Duplicolor kit seemed to do a good job. Now to get some more brake cleaner so I can get the back drums painted black, which should look a lot prettier than rust!
