Does anyone on the forum have an idea on how to disable 2006 Canadian Yaris's day time running lights??

I would imagine that the method of disabling the DRL could be similar to that of the 2000 celica. Go to www.newcelica.org and do a search for DRL. Have a look and poke around your yaris to see if it would work.
Why would you want to disable the DRL? I thought it is the "law" for cars to have DRL that are manufactured after 1995?

who told you that?
Look in your engine bay, there should be a black box with DRL on it. dissconnect it.

The rules are different in Canada.
Yes! Here in Canada, day time running lights are required. The idea is to make cars more visible on the road so as to reduce/avoid accidents. However, if somebody needs to cross the border to go to the US(where day time running lights are not yet compulsory) very often, day time running lights that can be switched off may help save a little fuel and prolong the bulbs' life spans slightly. Personally, I would leave them on all the time but it is up to the individual concerned to decide what is best for him/her.

Legal or not, don't really matter to me. As long as I have control over that light. If I flip it on...it will look legal.

The car does look a lot cooler without them on and just your park lights on. Changing the park light bulb color would even be better.

Hey guys, I figured out a cheap ass way to disable the DRL, Very simple, just relocate the E-brake switch to a different area. Then when you release the Hand brake, it will not activate the DRL. However, the E-brake light on the dash will remain on always....like I said cheap ass way...but it's reversable!

look in your engine bay for a heatsink cooled resistor. That is usually the DRL heatsink that draws energy away from the headlights to make the lights "DRL."
Just unplug the plug that goes to resistor and that should do it.

Unplug the fuse for DRL. It works on my Civic before but not sure if it work on Yaris or not, DRL is always a nice feature unless you want to run away from the COPS with 'stealth mode' in the dark. :w00t:

You will know right away if you have them, or dont have them.
With the car running, are your headlights on (with stalk in the OFF position)??
If you dont have "Cold Weather Package" then you dont have DRL's.
IMO, the CWP is a bunch of nonsence anyway....
In the USA DRL's come with the winter package, and that is it. So it is very possible for you not to have them.

Most of the US ones seem not to have them.. Which is odd, I thought all new cars in the US were going to be required to have them now.

definetly have the cold weather package(was told all cars sold in wisconsin came with it), and definetly dont have daytime running lights..
Now that is odd.
LOL, they come on the liftback in the cold weather package only. The sedan isn't tortured with them.

Yea, where exactly?
What works for the Celica and Echo, DO NOT work for the 07 Yaris.
I still have yet to locate a TSB for the 07's

If I remember correctly the module that controls the DRLs is behind the little cubby hole that is on the us driver side under the radio. You have to find a way to get there. there was a discussion about it on yarisowners.com

What is all this?? I have driven small cars since 1957, and the only real hazard is not being seen! Why would anyone drive a car that is already not all that visible go out of one's way to make it even worse?
Whatever, go for it, just remember whre you saw it first.

.
Polar never did say why he wanted to disconnect this safety feature but i'll assume he is into hypermiling and wants to save some money.:iono:
Be aware that BC laws require that if the vehicle was produced with daytime running lights those lights must be operating properly in order to drive legally today.

I had to disable my DRL's for my HID's. But just because you disable your DRL's, doesn't mean you're not going to drive with your headlights on during the day. I always do.
