Cutting bumpstops on Tein springs...

I bought a set of used Tein springs for my liftback. But I don't have the instructions and was wondering if anyone here has installed them and knows how much to cut the bumpstops.:iono:

I swear there has been 4 posts about this in just the last week. Cut them around 2 inches.

This is the max you can cut them. Any more and you risk bottoming out the strut and causing damage to it. It is recommended that you trim off the same amount as the drop. So, 2 inch drop, cut 2 inches off. 1.5 inch drop, cut 1.5 inches off. Just don't go past what the picture shows...

Cut off about ~25MM or 1inch. You really don't need to cut off the same amount as the drop. Lowering springs are stiffer then stock so the shocks travel through shorter cycles which means they don't need that much travel between the bumpstop and shock body. 1 inch of travel is sufficient for a comfortable ride.

If you cut it shorter then that like in the picture, you run the risk of rubbing in the front. Too much upward travel will allow the wheel to travel to far up into the wheel well. Also less bumpstop means less absorption for hard bumps and dips.

actually you want to cut it exactly where the picture shows. I have DF210s and i've had 17"s and 15"s and bumpstops at the length petersredyaris posted. I've yet to actually experience some rubbing

I would actually recommend leaving about 1/4 inch more that what is shown. This is especially important if you run wheels that have an offset of 38-40mm. To short of bumpstop and you will rub the fender liner because of the extra uptravel. If your offset is 42-45mm, you can cut them as shown and most likely have no rubbing.

FunctionSpec makes a good point too, that suspension travel with stiffer springs will be less. (see above) Just don't go shorter than shown or you can and will ruin your struts.

All this only applies to using drop springs on the OEM front struts. I don't have any knowledge on the TRD struts or others...

I'm sure that running a lower offset would cause rubbing no matter how tall your bump stop is.

More than what anyone types. Since its progressive, no matter how many zeros you put down, there'll be about 14 more than you.

Someone here know the answer to this... I read it awhile back, but can't remember. According to Tein, your supposed to cut them, but how much???

OK, I got the official word from Tein on this issue.

The S-Techs require that 1.4 inches be cut off the end using their "A" cut method. They have 4 different ways to cut bumpstops, the different methods can be found in the tech section of their website.

im curious what happen if you dont cut the bump stop on the trd i think its 1.2-1.5 drop..
