View Full Version : Need advice for Tint
I am thinking of getting tint, but not sure on what % to get. Was thinking most probably 20% rear window and 30% on back passenger seats..ideas?

Not sure about your local laws, but I have 20% all around (technically very illegal). Some go with 20% back window and rear passengers and then get 30% for the front driver and passenger windows. IMHO, anything lighter than 30% is a waste of materials and labor.

I guess I jumped the gun on this one. Let me rephrase.
For the purpose of blocking out the sun and not scorching my arm, I refuse to go with anything lighter than 30% because it just doesn't do the job as 30% and below (like say 20% to 5%).
Now, if you just want it for looks, the sky is the limit. You can get anywhere from 50% to 5% for all I care. Its your car, love it the way you want to love it.

I live in texas too and i have to say, i agree, the 5% keeps my interior nice, cool and bearable.

I've been very happy with 18% all around, visibility is not really an issue and the interior remains relatively cool...though it's black as well.

When you guys list a percentage, is that how much light get through? So 5% would be darker than 20%?
Yes NMB :)
And tint in my country would cost around 30$ max, and the legal limit is 30% me thinks.
Oh and cops here are not very lenient, if i go above the limit they'll rip it right off my windows :(

Check your state law on tints. Here in Illinois, fronts are prohibited while the back seat and rear windshield are fair game for anything. I heard Michigan has limits on all windows and shields.
I live in Lebanon. I'm pretty sure the legal limit is 30%. You need a permit for anything else.

I don't know if this is current (it was updated in 2007) but if you are in the US here are the laws applicable for your state.

I called a couple local shops and they are willing to tint beyond the limits but you have to sign something saying you know it's illegal.
Thanks, but I'm not from the states.

Hey ZING,
Yeah, I saw that you are from Lebanon, but I thought I would post the link for anybody else on the forum that was curious. Thanks for responding to my earlier question.

I have 5% in the back and 15% in the front with a 5% glare strip. Heres what it looks like on a silver LB.
