I was talking to the wife about the ipod ready HU we bought a couple weeks ago and we were discussing how much of a pain it was to select songs .. because the unit disables the ability to browse on the ipod itself.. so was like we should bring it back and get a different head unit.. for only 40-50 more than we spent we can get an in dash double din DVD player... she was like sure

so i did it lol

i was looking at a couple others in the same price range that also had a built in TV tuner and played DivX movies and other perks but really didnt want to buy one that ships from hong kong

would much rather deal with someone in the US

Let us know how good the unit is. I'm a little iffy since it's a brand I've never heard of. But that's a sick deal and I would seriously consider a purchase if it's a decent hu.

back when i was 17 i bought a no name LCD tv for my truck and i loved it . it was cheap like $100 bux and the quality was awesome .. i used one of those blaukpunt stand along eve players for the truck and it was great... sometimes you just have to take the chance :)

most of these electronics are made by the same people that make the sony/pioneer .. the bigger companies just pay to put their name on the units..

i'd rather cut out the middle man and save a bundle on the unit

Agreed, but I've heard just as many horror stories from people buying lesser known brands as well. Kind of a toss-up, but seeing as you'll be the first member here with that hu and real-world experience with it, you'd be the best person to come to for an honest review on it :thumbsup:

i'll defintely post my experience with it. The one thing i was sure to check was to make sure it was high def.. the ones that really suck are the 480p ones like the pyle and such.. some of them have horrible graphics

I really doubt that the 480p is the problem. I mean really, 480p on a 7" screen is really high... compare that to say a 27" TV. Much of this country still watches movies with worse than 480p quality on their TVs.

I'm sure there was something else that was causing horrible image quality.

on the manufactures site it says it has nav .. but the ebay listing didnt list that it does.. so maybe the manufacturer site had a newer version or something .. I'll know when i get the unit this week.. i'll post a nice review of it after i play with it :)

they are taking forever to ship it .. its been 6 days now and has not been dropped off at fedex.. i got the tracking but no ship.. I email the seller and they said "sorry about that I will check to see whats up and try to have them ship it today"

tracking shows it coming today .. they had an issue with shiping it .. they had an order of these at the warehouse with some problems (mishandling getting to them) i guess so they waited until the next order came in to insure that my unit wasnt man handled ... lol that sounded wrong.. i'll install it when i get home if its on my step

i have it all installed.. having some engine interference with the radio.. gotta look into that.. but other than that the system looks great.

good:
easy to operate, great colors, great display, very touch responsive,

bad:
lack of audio options
remote battery might be dead or just has a horrible response time

getting some sound interference when the car antenna is plugged in.

lack of install instructions

i have some tweaking to do to the dash trim so that i can mount it flush. i'll might play with that tonight.. i'll take a picture tonight with it in but no dash trim.

i fixed the static issue. it was a bad ground .. works nice and clean now.. sounds 100% better.

i'll probably keep it :)

it has a spot for a gps antenna .. i gotta locate the antenna.. and i think it will work if i get it it should work ..

if my phone had ad2p blue tooth i could dial numbers on the screen and talk to the screen rather than the phone.. they sell a tv antenna for it too and i can tune in local tv stations with it :)

That's a pretty sweet deal. The ipod control, does it load pretty fast? Is it easy to control? How many pre-outs does it have? What don't u like about, the cons?

ipod control is super fast. the only down fall of it is that it doesnt charge the ipod when its connected...

has sub pre outs bunch of bells a whistles

what i didnt like at first was the lack of audio options.. but the sound is good so it doesnt really matter much.

overall i like it :)

GPS isnt installed on this unit but you could probably find one that has it.

it has ad2p blue tooth too .. has ful phone control. but i dont have aad2p phone to try it out with .

pretty neat.. plays divx too .. which is sweet i have a ton of them on cd.. that i plan to put on a slim usb hdd and keep in the car to have like 150 movies on hand in the car at all times :) also has 2 video outs as well

It won't play movies while ur driving will it? If it doesn't, do you know how to get around that? I know people have gotten around that on other units. Would you recommend this unit to someone else??.... like me? lol, you make it sound like a pretty good deal. And I've been wanting a double din touch screen so bad! Just can't afford to spend $500 + on something. I'm almost done convincing myself to buy this one off ebay that you got ;P

i made it so it does play movies..

just hook the brake cable from the dvd player to the ground cable in the car harness.

the ebay vendor i bought it from took two weeks to ship it..

there is a retailer i found called geeks.com that sells the unit that has great customer service. I would reccommed ordering it from them

i would recommend it other than i have a tiny bit of alternator whine.. but i'm guessing if i ground the unit direct to the chasis rather than using the ground cable it will go away.

its not noticeable when the radio is turned up.. only when there isnt any sound going through it.

you'll have to dremel the trim on the car a little for the screen to be able to open/close freely.. super easy.. then just dremel a cheap walmart single din kit to close the gap on the sides

thx for the info! how many audio inputs does it have? I really only use ipod and an aux input for my xm radio. Occassionally put a cd in. I know this has ipod and cd, but does it have another aux input? Can you put a pic up showing what you had to dremmel off of the trim? I already have the trim kit for the sides and i'll dremmel that part if I have to, not worried about it. Just not sure if I want to dremmel the silver trim pieces.

You seriously think that it's high definition? They just called it that because it has a 16:9 ratio screen, instead of a 16:9 screen.

I really doubt that this unit has a 7 inch screen that is 720 or 1080 pixels high.

there was a huge difference between the two screens.. definitely less resolution.. idk what the actual aspect was on them but it sucked.. this one i have now is great :)

Well if you look on that geeks.com page for it, they lie and say that it is HD.

Glad the screen is good quality. I'd be nervous of getting an off-brand deck because of that reason.

Hey Tiny, did u ever get rid of that background whine? And have you tried the portable hard drive yet? I have one but the usb on my current radio won't power it. I was tryin to circumvent the ipod, but ended up having to buy one to get all music in the car.

btw the ipod control doesnt charge the ipod has as it plays.

so i purchased this dock .. that will allow me to connect via the changer cable and attatch the usb cable to the HU usb to charge the ipod.

I'm not worried about charging. I can just take the ipod inside at night, I'm usually on the comp playin WoW most nights. ipod can charge then. Let me know about the grounding thing though, I'm curious if that will solve the problem. i have a whine with my xm radio right now, I have a cable run through the firewall and was gonna bolt it down on that metal tube/rod or w/e it is right behind the cd player. Just haven't done it yet. I have no whine with any other sources on my kenwood cd player though. So if it's just that unit that has the whine then I'll prolly go for a different dvd player. But for the price, u make it sound REALLY good!

I have a western digital, I think it's 120G. But the usb on my Kenwood dxp502 won't power it. The hdd will start and then it just shuts down. Works fine with my computer though. Don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but your idea for the divx movies on an hdd might not work :frown:

alrighty I chasis ground the thing and there is still a little ... I tried unplugging the radio antenna .. and .. it stopped..

the antenna in the car must not be grounded right or something i'll keep googling and get to the solution eventually :)

well from what i was just reading antenna noise is from poor grounding at the antenna mount point and can be remedied with an Antenna noise filter.. so i just ordered one on ebay ($13 Shipped)

I'l let you know if it does the trick :)

Already went for the Pioneer avh-p4000dvd. Got a christmas bonus coming up that I forgot about so I decided to spend a tiny bit more. I think this will have a more flush look installed. That generic unit u got looks to be pretty good but kinda sticks out some. I'll be installing my Pioneer unit this afternoon. =)

lmk if when the ipod is connected if it allows control of the ipod on the ipod itself or it it locks it out and makes it so you can only control the ipod on the touch screen. thats one of the reasons i didnt go with a pioneer HU

ihad a single din one that did that and it bugged me

If I am ever gonna get 7inch touch screen, which I REALLY want, I think its gonna be this one. You are slowly but surely convincing me this is a alright headunit! I wanna finish my audio setup with a double din touch screen, but I highly doubt I'd ever want to drop the 700-1000 bones to buy one. Since this one is working out great for you, I am seriously considering this purchase.
