The Insight and the Prius almost look like one was photochopped off another.

Isn't the Volt supposed to be stupid expensive?

still has an ugly butt

The back end may appear ugly to some but it's one of the most efficient designs that can be used for aerodynamics. This lends itself to the Gen II Prius' cD of just 0.26 which means it is more aerodynamic than an Indy racer or Corvette.

In order of cost, most to least.... Volt (starting $30-40k), Prius (starting around $25k), Insight (starting under $20k)

I like the the look, but the insight is a copycat, and the Volt seems useless, unless the buyers only drive 50miles in an average day.

Uhh... I don't say many good things about Chevy, but the Volt seems to be the way to go. No gas needed under 40 miles a day. That would suit me fine. Plus if gas is needed it is a small engine used to charge the batteries and uses very little gas.

I gotta say, BRAVO CHEVY! Well Done!

I don't like the funtionality of any of those cars. No hatchback. Can't haul a dishwasher/washing machine if needed.

I'm waiting for the 2010 Fit Hybrid! Now were talkin!

I have moved a washing machine with a prius hatchback and closed the hatch and as far as a dishwasher...... she sits in the passenger seat.

There's Also talk that what you are calling the 2010 Prius , will
also run at a higher speed before petrol engine kicks in (75kmh from memory)
instead of the old at 50kmh. Making it way more fuel effect.

never liked the prius... but this doesnt look as bad as the this years model. I still wouldnt buy it.

And like someone said, the prius and the insight almost look exactly alike. I think one of them is photoshopped.

Bailout may have already mentioned it.....it's that optimum shape you want a car to be for best aero. I'm sure all the manufacturers have come to this shape already (mathematically and trial and error), they just never ran with it, because it's not aesthetically pleasing as the more conventional shapes.

Anyone notice the headlights being different on the first two photos?

One of them has to be a fake although "confirmed real by Toyota." The second almost looks Mazda3'ish.

http://priuschat.com/sites/default/files/images/2010_prius_1.jpg

http://priuschat.com/sites/default/files/images/2010_prius_4.jpg

Unless one of the headlights is supposed to be longer than the other and it also seems that in the first pic, there's a small bommerang like what Nissan is doing to all of the newer models to come (Maxima first and now the upcoming Z redesign).

tuckevalastin
10-25-2008, 06:50 PM
there are also spy shots of the car in testing that seem to match the leaked photos which makes it even less likely they are faked... we will know for sure in Detroit in January I guess

Regardless, I still think that Hybrids are overpriced and overdone. An Aygo or a Yaris with a turbodiesel would get about the same MPG that a Prius would reach here in the states. At a fraction of the cost.

Remember that a Prius is noteably good for about 45mpg, nothing huge of a number. Better than the past, but obtainable even with a petrol only engine.

About ten percent better than the Yaris's cD of 0.29.

Hybrids are rediculous IMHO. All that extra money for a car that gets less mileage than a diesel. Well there is the "looking down on everyone else for killing the planet" factor.

i think the headlight difference you are seeing is just from the angle of the shot, it was captured from low resolution video when it was "leaked" so some image quality was definetly lost.

That Lexus is more based on the new Toyota Avensis wich is introduced at the end of 2008:

we had an '07 PRIUS and enjoyed its stay . Read that 2010 will have a choice of the 1.5 ltr. or an 1.8ltr.. The 1.5 ltr. had plenty of pep on the interstate with 3 people and extra cargo . The car would average 50 at 68 m.p.h.. One time got 99.9 miles to the gallon from the east end of city to the westside into the garage . This was all city driving and 2 people . Hit lights and traffic just right . Never did repeat it . Was fun to see which one of us could get best mileage  . The bladder that's used for the tank is a pain in the :moon: . The rubber gets stiff in the cold and makes for long fills and hot weather the fumes make for twitchy pump  . Thus can make for inaccurate logging of your mileage , don't fully trust the onboard computer . The bladder is for less / no evaporation of gas . PRIUS has its faults , like many things on this planet . YES , we'd get another 1 if the price was right  .

we'd consider buying the MITSU Colt diesel hatchback if was sold here . We had many DODGE / PLYMOUTH Colts / Champs ( '80 > '92 ) and one '92 EAGLE Summit sedan . The 1980 1.4 ltr. 2 door hatch with 4 speed manual had plenty of zip . One time we had the car loaded with 5 family members to go to an out of town BINGO night . I had to lay on my side in the hatch area the whole time . Talk about a full house . Those were the days  . Great little car too  .

I have a 2005 Prius, bought it before it was PC to own one.

LOVE the car, comfy for four people, great mileage and carries a lot of cargo with the seats down. 60k miles, nothing but maintenance work so far.

The torque from a dead stop kicks ass too.

Im assuming this Prius will be approaching 45K. The current one is about 30K. Outrageous. Do you know what the replacement battery alone runs?

No thanks, i'll stay in my Yaris liftback which is way cooler and every bit as functional.

Until some car company somewhere mass produces an affordable hybrid, thats when i'll own one.

Also, there is such a thing as 'Priuschat'? Sounds girly.

I'd spring $27,000 for a PRIUS before a CADILLAC SRX ( C.U.V. , what a joke , just a S.U.V. with lower roofline and rounded corners , they ( all car manufacturers , including TOYOTA ) know most AMERICANs are easily deceived :stupid: , :bonk:) or a HUMMER ( even dumber  ) .
