ICE headache

I got the go-ahead to eat up 500 bucks of my gf's money for a head unit and speakers. That's not a lot but it's enough.
The good thing about my job is that I can surf the web all day looking at head units and speakers online. Oh yeah, I've been looking at the DIYs too. I'm thinking I can change my head unit with no problem but I'm a little scared to do the speakers myself. I don't wanna eff anything up. Brackets, harness, and Meta kits??? No idea. But I know that if I order from Crutchfield the harness kits they have are spot on...so, not that worried about that. Now, drilling and making new holes in my baby. Not sure if I feel comfy doing that. That's why I'm thinking the Best Buy or Circuit City route. Just point at what I want and let them deal with it. On the other hand, I would feel like such a badass if I did the install myself. Le Sigh.
It's times like this that I wish I had a boyfriend. To use him for his instilled man-skills.
