can it be this easy to make a "custom" turbo kit?

can it be this easy to make a turbo kit? roughly $1634
how good is the t3/t4 turbo?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/UNIVERSAL-T3...9a7e48&vxp=mtr

http://shop.microimageonline.com/1NZ...-tmani-nwg.htm

http://shop.microimageonline.com/AEM...er-30-1910.htm

http://shop.microimageonline.com/Boo...ss-BS-001Y.htm

of course no turbo kit is good unless you get some parts from Micro Image

Just looking at the sales shows three kits sold in March with only one left. I know nothing about turbos, but all that equipment for $500 sounds pretty good.

sure i suppose i could do that and add the wiring harness and AEM FIC to bring up to $2488 or see if i can build a kit that works and has red silicone instead of the blue ones especially if the car is red, the blue might clash a little. and with as much feed back and information on going turbo there is on this forum and the MI forum it should be fairly easy to get together and running good. not to mention that i would also have to hit up Garm for low compression pistons and H or I beam connecting rods. so save the 800 or so difference and Invest it into the bottom end.

It concerns me that this turbo doesnt have a coolant line (only says oil cooled)

IMO this would be a good kit to build off of. would recommend a better turbo as well and you will probably will need more I/C lines as well as i would be hesitant to use the no-name BOV and wastegate actuator

good call, i did notice a higher AR t3/t4 so as long as the mounting flange is the same it should be a fairly easy starting point. there are few more parts to add to what is here with the end goal being a planed build that is cheaper yet more powerfull than a basic 7-8psi kit with an upgraded bottom end.

+1000

A Tial Wastegate for example is 200+ bucks all on its own let alone and then a solid BOV is another 200+. And let's not forget the boost controller they have which as well you have no idea who manufactures. Just stay away from it and don't have any regrets.

I can't say I wouldn't recommend it, but realize there is A LOT of custom fabrication that will still be needed. Unless you can do it yourself, you're going to be paying for additional parts AND labor. That would likely push it past the point of being more cost effective than a kit, but I could be wrong.

Things to consider:
1) Custom manifold. It's going to need a flange for an external wastegate by the looks of it.
2) Custom downpipe.
3) Personally, I wouldn't want a turbo that isn't water cooled. I also think T3/T4 is a bit overkill for our engine (unless you're building the bottom end).
4) Additional intercolor piping.
5) You'll have to tap the block for oil drain.

I agree with avoiding no-name brand parts too. My bov I used was a knockoff, and just look at how much trouble that caused me...

Here's the part Garm is gonna like but end of the day its true.

The Zage kit you get good quality starter products complete and ready to install. also if there is any problem with the kit, Microimage will back you up 100% the way.

Having customer service > not having it.

There really is no reason to not use Zage if you're not planning on a big build. Keep in mind turbo kits for most other cars run $3k+

I do have an excel sheet with most of the parts you will need for a full turbo kit, $1634 seems a bit low.

can i get a copy of that, should be interesting to look at and see what all i'm missing from the original post. I know there are a few things missing from the OP and i know that in order to make a good system low compression pistons, upgraded connecting rods, turbo timer, quality blow off valves, and probably an upgraded fuel system as well.

Ill post as soon as I get home, it was made with ebay stuff mostly. No engine rebuild.

Couldn't find the final version, but will look for it. (it wasn't completed though)

What is your over all goal? This is the first and foremost question to be asked.

The two most important things in a turbo kit, is the turbo and manifold. Expect to replace the Ebay turbo often. That particular size turbo won't bolt to the micro image manifold anyways. There is no easy/cheap way to boost a car properly, If you go that route expect much headache. At the shop I work at, I can't count how many times a customer brings us an $800 kit and leaves with a $ 5000+ bill.

Can anyone with first hand knowledge post why those eBay turbos are so bad?

I think pimp my yaris has been for like 2 years with one of this turbos and has not reported any issues with it.

OP, tell me if you prefer i ask this question on my own thread.
