Trailer and Springs

Hello all :)

Thanks for all your past help.

I have a, hopefully, quick question.

I have a set of Megan springs waiting for spring to get installed.
I plan on getting a hidden hitch and small trailer.

Will the hitch/trailer work with the springs? I am concerned about bumper clearance.

Not sure I understand why you're concerned about bumper clearance just because your car will be sitting 1.5 inches lower.

What I would recommend is this. If your source for the Hidden Hitch sells the receiver with or without the draw bar, opt for without. The provided draw bar will not place the ball at the correct height. Install the receiver, then buy the draw bar seperately once you determine how much lift you will need to have the ball positioned properly relative to the trailer tongue.

I am worried the bumper will be to low for the hitch to be usable.

Though, I dig your idea and will run with it. I will just get the hidden hitch first. If all is a fail, it is still a rear connecting sway bar. :)

I'm running a Curt hitch with Megan springs. No issues. Since a hitch is mounted to the frame, springs do not affect its location relative to the bumper.

*If* for some reason you find the hitch sits too low, pointing the nose of the trailer too steeply towards the ground, you can always remove the ball and flip the bar over and re-install the ball. It will elevate the ball to compensate for the lower vehicle.

Yes you can. However, in my case, the drop bar that shipped with my hitch receiver is too low in normal position, too high flipped. With the lowering springs, and my trailer (they differ slightly from one to another) a zero drop bar worked best.

A basket would work with a sedan and aftermarket receiver (discussed above) however I've yet to see a basket for a 1 1/4" receiver. All I've seen are 2". An adapter might be available???

1.25" do exist. Considerably lighter duty than the one pictured above. That thing looks like the work platform on a hydrolic scaffold.
