DIY: Make Your Own Short Shifter

First, here is the final product. 3.25" shorter shifter. I've had this weighted knob on it, or right now I'm using the stock shift knob.

I took a grinder and cut below the threads.

Then, I drilled out and slotted the Toyota 12mm adapter that came with the knob to be a snug fit onto the shaft.

You screw on the shift knob (which takes A LOT of effort and blisters, trust me. It's a VERY snug fit.)

(To use the stock shift knob, you have to drill it out to be a really tight fit, and hammer it on with a rubber mallet.)

And you're done. It's pretty simple, and the end product is a short shifter that you didn't have to pay any money for. I also have this coupled with an engine-bay short throw kit.

nice economic diy. I'm just scared to grind mines off, but i do want a short shifter like yours, easier on the hills for me here in the city.

I just figured I could always re-weld whatever I grinded off. Then it wasn't as scary.

NST short shifter or TRD short shifter, the NST one is cheaper and they both do the same thing, plus the NST one comes in different colors.

Here is a link to the NST short shifter: http://shop.microimageonline.com/pro...=1&productId=3

I just figured I could always weld it if I messed it up. Or buy a new shifter shaft.
