The last year of a classic

As this is the last year of the classic Yaris 2dr LB Toyota has finally added a fuel economy gauge option. Apparently it resides in the center instrument panel. I began to wonder if this feature is already in our earlier cars but not hooked up? Does anyone know? If not, can the new instrument panel be exchanged with the old one and have this feature operational? Sounds like a question for CT Scott.

The data is available on all years, but the ability to display it on the cluster is just enabled on the JDM and European clusters. It's not something that can be activated without reprogramming the microcontroller within the cluster. Swapping in a cluster which has the feature theoretically should work, but it depends on if the cluster is using the existing ECM data or if the ECM has been updated with a new CAN bus message for that function.

Not to my knowledge. You have to have something like a ScanGauge, EcoMeter, or CTScott's magic voodoochip he made.

For the last year of the 2 door LB, why don't they give the people something that
actually makes the car more competitive with others, such as more horsepower...

If I lose, winner takes my happy meal. But if I win, I take the burger and the toy. To some people, that's more important.

Voodoo chip? Hmmm. In Ireland the Yaris comes in a 1.3 and if I'm not mistaken a 1.0. If they had those here I would have bought the smallest displacement I could. These are economy cars not rice rockets. You can make them into rice rockets if you dont mind the green house gasses. If we don't get real and lower our green house gas emissions in the next decade or two then we're done. Tea party oil mongers can argue about it all they want but when 99.999 percent of ALL science worldwide says we're up the creek with a dissolving paddle I for one am going to do my part. I didn't buy this adequate car for it's tiny size and road noise or even because it saves me money at the pump. I bought it because it is a ULEV ultra low emission vehicle. The lowest emission vehicle I can afford. Ask the average American what a ULEV is and you'll get an Idea of the kind of mess we're in.
