Longest lasting brake pads?
Is there such a thing. My wifes origional front pads lasted 70k miles but the aftermarket ones only 17K! They were $35. Bendix.
Are zToyota really the best or is there another? Thanks!

What type of driving was she doing during the time she got 70k miles? I just did my brakes today with 72,000 miles on my 2010 which is mostly freeway. I could have gone a little longer with them but the rotors were starting to shake and I replace them and the pads. On both the front sets, one pad showed almost double the wear compared the other. The thicker pad was almost the thickness of a new pad. You would think the calipers were bad but I have a hard time believing both would go bad at the same time. The brakes are functioning fine as well.

I guess having a manual transmission can really help. I still haven't had to touch the brakes on my '07 other than having the rear drums cleared of dust and the hand brake adjusted. One could tell from his old YouTube videos that trini_per4mance drove his Yaris fairly aggressively on freeways when he was a courier, and he didn't have to touch his brakes until 400,000 miles. I've heard some people say 'brakes are cheaper than engines' (obviously), but between the two of us we have over 830,000 miles on our original engines.

At work we use Auto Zone's C-Max pads. They are a little pricy but they are low on dust & sometimes come with hardware shims (they do come with brake lube).
One of the best things to do is every couple year is check the front brakes for seized up parts. The pins can get stuck & the pads can get rusted in the caliper mount brackets. We sandblast the caliper mount brackets to clean them up. |

My wife uses the car mostly to go to work but also to visit friends and relatives on weekends. About what most people use their car for 75% local 25% distance driving. Really her driving habits havnt changed which makes the difference in miles puzzleing.
I plan to inspect the brakes this fall. Its been about 2 years since they were replaced at 88k miles. 115k miles now. The only thing is she drives very fast and aggressively! And of course she doesn't take my advice!

You know, but just so anyone else not familiar with Houston who reads this understands...... NYC to Philadelphia = 94 miles Conroe, TX (northern end - metro area) to Alvin, TX (southern end)= 71 miles.... .....When the Grand Parkway is finished (the most outlying beltway/ring around Houston) is finished, it will be the longest beltway around any city in the world. |

Changed my oil 4/1/04 and will do it again Oct 1st. 1700 miles since then.
My brother and mother live in Houston and Ive ridden my motorcycle there several times. Definitely you don't want to get stuck in traffic in Houston on a mc in summer!

I'm going onto 90,000 OEM pads. When I saw my mechanic last, he said I still had about ~40% left on them. I can't complain about the quality on my pads at all. I'll probably end up changing them out very very soon and resurfacing the rotors while I'm at it.

Definitely. I lived through a hot Summer in the SF Bay Area in the early 1990s with my new black Dodge Colt with no A/C. Would have been much worse in Houston....and worse than that on a motorcycle in Houston.

I changed my pads and rotors at 75k iirc. They had alot of life in them...but I was getting ready for an autocross with the car so I installed Centric rotors and Powerstop pads
