factory radio replacement
Hi, My Yaris is an '08 hatch. The factory radio / cd player is acting up and I would like to replace it. I have pulled it out a couple times to try to "fix" it and in a few days the cd player starts showing "errors" again. I would like something of equal or better quality AM/FM/CD and would love to find something that would fit right in the existing cavity neatly without having to do any modifications. Something that would match the wiring harness would be a plus too. Anybody with any experience probably knows the unit I am looking for. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

To fit the existing area perfectly, without filler strips, you are limited to an OEM headunit (since Toyota uses a custom size that is 20mm wider than standard double DIN) or one of the aftermarket radios that is specifically designed to fit the Toyota space. The aftermarket ones that I have seen that fit perfectly do not seem to be great quality-wise, so you may be better off just using a good aftermarket radio and using a set of the Metra filler pieces, as well as their harness that plugs into the OEM connectors, so that no cutting is required.

^ agreed. I have had 4 different aftermarket HUs in mine and really the happiest I have been in all honesty is a single DIN. About the only double DIN that I have seen/used was in Jinni's LB which is her Pioneer AVIC...that is a sweet series.

The thread that was all the way on the top, literally, when you posted this, and is now right below this one lists everything you need other than the head unit of your choice.

Take a look at the new Sony pieces. They look like they're turning things around. The HD series screens look pretty nice and they don't sound too bad either. From what I'm hearing, they have a 5.5 Volt output all the way up, no clipping either...
I *might* actually sell my P-01 for the XAV 701HD piece. maybe...
