transmission isshues
Okay i just posted this up and it got removed for whatever reason, but anyway im my worried about 2 things with my tranny. I bought my 07 yaris from a dealer 1 week ago with 50,000 miles. I used to drive a honda civic manual and when i drive the yaris its a completly different clutch feel. When i take off in 1st everything is fine but when i shift into 2nd my car dosent jerk but it jumps foward. I dont give it any gas as i left off while shifting so idk why it does it. But when i give it a lil gas as i let off the clutch it shifts smoother in.
2nd question when i put my car in reverse it feels harsh but it drives fine? Like you hear a sorta loud cluck when you go from regular driveing and you put it in reverse. Idk if im being too worried but i baby all my cars so if i can get some feedback i would appericiate it. |

First: Your thread was probably not deleted, but rather moved to the appropriate forum section. This should be in the DIY or Performance forum, but I'll answer anyway.
Second: If the Civic you drove was a cable throttle, that would be why it felt massively different. The clutch in a Yaris is very light. The 'jump' you feel is the delay in the drive-by-wire throttle system. Essentially, the gas pedal has no cable attached to it and it is just a pressure sensitive electronic button. The release and reapplication of the pedal during a shift has a delay in it for emissions reasons, but can be programmed differently with a tune. Basically, there's nothing wrong with the gas pedal. It just takes some adapting to. Shifting into reverse has a clunk sometimes when the synchros aren't fully lined up properly. This can be minimized with a transmission fluid change but at 50,000 miles, it isn't entirely necessary yet. You can go ahead and change it out with Redline MT90 gear oil and it will help a lot. Also, shift into first before you put the transmission into reverse. If you're on an incline, sometimes it'll clunk anyway, but you aren't doing anything drastic to the car. Enjoy your Yaris. -C
