Upgrading to TRD springs - Toyota Yaris Forums

I was wondering upgrading to TRD springs do I also need to upgrade the shocks? If so can I buy microimage Tokico shocks instead of the TRD shocks? And if I leave the shocks, will there be any problems?

another side, if I just upgrade the shocks and keep stock spring, will there be any problems and what would that gives to the ride??

Lastly, what's the typical rate for suspension work done for the springs? and/or with shocks?

you can change out just springs, or just struts/shocks, keeping in mind two things.

1. stock shocks will probably not last as long with lower/stiffer springs, as they are only valved for one purpose.
2. Changing the other parts later means double the work.

I would buy H&R springs over TRD; better value and a progressive spring with about the same drop.

** We make springs, but the struts/shocks you mean (I think) are Tokico, just to be clear.

Rates vary, don't know what they would be in your area. Get a flat rate quote if you can from a shop you like.

Personally I would never take away suspension travel without increasing shock damping rates to avoid bottoming and control rebound.
+ unless it's your labour of love (meaning you're not paying a shop) the cost to go back later to upgrade the dampers might equal the cost of the sporty dampers going in the first time around.
++ the handling will be MUCH improved with sport dampers.

I figure just do it right the first time since your already in there. Just install the shocks/springs at the same time and be done with it. You'll save yourself the hassle
of doing it twice and enjoy the enhanced driveability

Garm, thanks for posting something about the H&R's, I was just starting to look at them on MI, but having a tough time finding anything on YW. May go with those instead of Pro-Kits. For a slightly lower drop. Pretty similar quality?

You'll be.fine with Ted's on stock shocks. I'm pretty sire eibach makes the Trds so they'll have progressive rates.....toyota dealers in Canada just sell eibach prokits as TRD springs anyways....I know because I had some.

Depending on your mileage, I would just opt for tokico blues versus running stock shocks. If you need help installing the suspension, I'm out of work and could do it here for you....I've done mine a half dozen times and other members like bezzz in the past

My stock shocks just went out at 102,000 miles and my car has been lowered over 2" its whole life (on Tanabe DF210's, and now just put in Tein S-Tech's). Will be ordering some Tokico blue's soon to swap them out with, but I don't regret using stock shocks while lowered.

I have been lowered on stock struts as well for about 2500 miles.

I would recommend installing these yourselves. The price to install is going to be probably close to double the value of the springs.

It was a great eight year run, but it was time to focus on other things. I'm still selling parts on eBay under micro*image seller ID and customers can still make requests for anything specific.
