What's with the ECON button for the automatic ?

Does it have any impact on gas mileage ?

Nope it's just telling you when you are getting economy gas mileage when the light is on. Like its telling you "hey you are doing a good job" haha

Doesn't it shift faster/earlier so that you get to cruising speed faster. Assuming you aren't a lead foot that is. I'm comparing this to driving more agressively which would make the trasmission shift at a later time..ie hold the gear longer so you have more power to accelerate.

It's the opposite of back in the day when Toyotas had "PWR" buttons for performance and all the power button did was it held the shifts out longer

I'm assuming we're not talking about CVTs and this is after the computer has learned or adapted to your driving styles.

Thanks, I wasn't paying attention as to what section of the forum this thread was in; and since the OP has that they drive an 08 Yaris sedan auto I was even further confused...

We have one on our Honda Odyssey, it's one of the most useless lights on the dash. At least in that one it indicates the Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system has cut out cylinders not needed during highway driving...

Does this light come on when the DFCO engages?

I was asking for the person we know that just bought a 2012 w/ the automatic . Does the ECON come with a 5 speed manual as well ?

No the manual does not come with an ECON light or button. However, I use the avg or instantaneous MPG in the computer display to see how'm I doin'. By the way, the WORST I've gotten (even on Winter gas) on my 2012 Yaris SE 5 speed is 36 mpg and the best is around 40 mpg over a 9-10 gal. fullup.

My ECON light stays lit all the time except when at a complete stop. Though, when I have really accelerated, it has briefly gone off. I actually find I like being constantly reminded that I am being economical, though that green glow is a tad bright at night.
