Poll: What would you do?

I've got a few things done to my car so far performance-wise:

-MI Crank Pulley
-Tanabe Medalion Touring exhaust
-TRD rear sway bar
-TRD high-flow air filter


I am not into making my car powerful at the expense of drive-ability or making it super loud/stinky/uncomfortable, etc... I've been down the gutted-out high-boost route before and it makes for a terribly uncomfortable car. I bought the Yaris because I like the handling of tiny little superminis and I also like getting good gas mileage. Basically I'm just building a regular old Yaris like the countless tens of thousands of other ones out there...just a little more fun.

I've already totally decided against turbocharging it, I'll just get greedy with the boost and blow something, on top of that I don't care for all of the plumbing work nor having to deal with fuel controllers and all of that garbage, I'm looking for simple reliability.

That leaves two options power-wise, either stay N/A and add in an MI Intake Manifold along with a DC header, or spend a lot more and get a little more oomph with a Blitz supercharger. The Blitz sounds like a great option, but it's quite pricey and on top of that any FI will affect the longevity of an engine, that's just a fact, even with low boost.

So what do you guys think? MI manifold, DC header and spend the extra cash on stuff for handling or get Blitz'd?

As someone who has had a blitz on one of his three Yaris for the past two years, I can say that it makes the car so much fun, without using much more fuel.

And, with the fact that you can switch it off completely, with the flick of a knob, if you have to do a long trip and want to save money by running 87 octane fuel, you can easily do so.

For the $1300 price tag of that used one, you can't even get close to the same result with anything else in that same price range.

But does the stock ECU have the range to run the blower safely?

When I put a blower on my vfr, I had to add a power commander 5 and auto tune.

So is this just a bolt up without other mods? how much boost have folks run, without blowing stuff up?

The blitz kit includes a fuel controller that works perfectly as a piggyback to the ECM (installation of it is pretty simple with about 10 wires being connected). This fuel controller though is designed to be used with a completely stock setup, so it will run a tad lean if an aftermarket intake is used, for example. An AEM F/IC does the trick for those trying to squeeze everything out of the blitz by adding and intake, etc.

I am not aware of anyone actually popping an engine with a blitz (which is limited to 6 lbs of boost), whereas a few have done so turbos and one with a greddy SC.

The people who dyno-ed theirs saw 130-140 HP with the stock setup and, if I remember correctly, the tuned ones with intake, etc. were able to hit the 150 HP range.

Two weeks ago I was filling my supercharged one and totally forgot which one I was driving, so I put 8 gallons of 87 in it before it dawned on me that I had the blue, not red one. I shut off the pump, got in the car, flipped the blitz knob to "Off", and proceeded to drive it for the next week and a half, until I burned off the 87. I then filled it with 93, flipped the knob to my standard setting of "Low" (which means engage the S/C clutch with a low amount of throttle) and went back to driving it with a big smile.

it depends on what makes the car fun for you. For me, with Megan coilovers and lightweight wheels, pulleys, flywheel/clutch, the car is fun to drive. I'm not really interested in adding a ton of hp with my Yaris.

I will probably add the MI manifold and other mods as i go along.

But people with the supercharger love it, and don't report that much of a gas mileage hit. if you can get above 36 mpg with the supercharger, and it just costs you the added fuel price, then why not?

well plus the price for the kit.

If you really want to kick things up a notch...one of these babies will be available soon and would do it. Of course a little refurb and custom mod work is needed.

I would get the supercharger as $1300 for 25-35 Hp is better than $700 for 7hp.

Second, the $1300 blitz is used... Let say you want to sell it again in the future, I don't think you loose that much , but the mani would take the hit .

As the installation , you need to spend a little more time on the blitz, but not too hard , can be installed It with a common tools.

You don't really have to tune the car as its already comes with a set fuel management .

And when you floor the gas pedal .... Wuuuuuuuunnn , that's you will not get from the manifold .

If you have a limited budget, I would go with the manifold, as I actually like how it look on the engine bay compare to the big chunk of metal on a blitz ... Specially if you have a custom finish ...but if you have the extra $$ for that used blitz kit ... I would jump on it .
