For the sake of cars and bikes, I have always used platform style hitch mount racks. Shortly I'll once again fit an 1 1/4" receiver tube on a newly acquired SE. My bikes are light cross-country aluminum or carbon-fiber framed so weight is no issue.

Presently using:

...light and well made

in my yaris i have a Swagman G2

love it and it carries both my bikes easy, its also designed for the 1 1/4 receiver. so jut get a standard trailer hitch for the yaris.
but i am going to install a set of airbags to lvl out the car since it does squat with 200lbs hanging 2 feet off the back.

Any idea what the difference is in fuel economy - rack and bikes on vs. rack and bikes off?

the only thing i notice is the way the car feels over bumps. rear feels more bouncy and heavier than the front hahaha. fuel economy is the same as having another 200lb passanger.

By the way, all i had to do was scoot the front seat up a bit and i was able to get it in. You gotta be super careful because the plastic on the interior of the doors scratches terribly easy.

Sorry I'm late to the party, I meant to post up earlier but I didn't realize the pictures were deleted.
We went with a Yakima Doubledown 4

That red button at the bottom of the second pic, behind the upright, allows the entire assembly with bikes (if they're attached) to tilt down to access the hatch.

ill have to take a pic of mine folded up when i put it back on for the summer.
folds straight up and still enough room to open hatch with it up. but its probably 3 times as much as the Yakima.

What hitch did you guys use? I got a Curt 11050 that is supposed to be fitted for the 13 yaris but it doesnt seem to be wide enough, or i just may be making it harder than it needs to be.....

That sounds right, we purchased a curt hitch too. It fit with no problems just need to remove the one clip in the middle of the bumper to install the kit.

Just kidding, i figured out the problem! It was a bit short and upon further inspection i found the one side was slightly bent. A little work with the rubber mallet and it is good to go and all bolted up! Thanks again

I just tried to mount the Curt #11050 to my 2013 Toyota Yaris SE and the hitch wouldn't clear my exhaust. The thing rattled. How did you do it? How much clearance do you have and do you feel that it fits well? Do you have any issues with the little Chrome dongle on your exhaust?

i pulled the chrome thing off (slides off) and put a cut turbo coupler and clamp over the hitch to stop from rattling, i still need to find a sweet round tip to put on there. one of these days i will take some pics underneath. the hitch and diffuser line up perfectly.

I found that even with the chrome thing off the car the Curt hitch went essentially on top of the exhaust and the two of them were never more than a millimeter apart. A picture of your setup would be great as I only have a few days to either return or re-mount this hitch...

Maybe Curt has more than one design for this model? I am using the Curt #11050 which is listed as the correct one for the 2013 Yaris... But clearly doesn't fit properly on the Yaris SE...

And by "line up perfectly" I assume you mean "line up in the worst way possible"? The hitch bar goes straight through the exhaust cutout!
