Check Engine Light EVAP LEAK (VERY SMALL LEAK) after tailpipe fell off

Lost the last section of the exhaust, right where the tailpipe bolts to the mid pipe by the rear passenger wheel well. Rust. I drove on it a couple weeks until I could get to the shop and have them fix it. I got a check engine light about a VERY SMALL evaporative emissions system leak. They deleted the code but it came back after a couple restarts and drives. The gas cap is tight, I redid it twice. Not sure if this is something to worry about.

Be aware this code came on literally as I was driving to the shop to get it welded back up, not after. For the 2 weeks prior I didn't get a CEL. Car is in good mechanical condition otherwise, I stay on top of maintenance well but Ive been working big overtime lately and didnt have time to fix it faster (construction industry)

You need to have it smoke tested for evap leaks.

A past vehicle of mine had a small evap leak. Like everyone, first thing I checked was the gas cap. Looked good but a subsequent smoke test revealed the cap as the culprit. Turns out a small amount of corrosion on the lip of the filler neck was preventing an adequate seal with the cap gasket. So yeah, smoke test is absolutely the route you need to take, after first checking the integrity of the cap seal. Anything else is chasing ghosts and throwing away money.

CEL turned off on its own after several days. Weird.
