Why did you order one? Was your configuration a little bit different than most others?
By the way, what price were you able to negotiate? |

yeah.. seems like the liftbacks are hard to come by. My sister walked into a dealer over the weekend and they just happened to have one, so she jumped on it. Otherwise, she would've had to wait a few weeks.

I understand the buy American (or in my case buy Canadian) problem. I always felt good that my last 2 Acuras were built less than 100km from my home. Sometimes though, you just have to buy the right car for you. Many of the U.S. small cars are actually built outside of North America anyway. I would like to support the N.A. workers, I don't really care about the shareholders profits.

If an american car company had a vehicle that could get gas mileage like the Yaris I might have taken a look.
But they don't. The other problem is a lot of so called "American" cars are made somewhere else, like Mexico.

The wait time for a liftback (that's the same term for hatchback right?) is about 6-8 weeks if it is a factory order.
Since you're in Detroit, I suspect it will take a full 8 to 10 weeks. The vehicles would most likely discharge at Seattle or Tacoma, and then be loaded into a rail car for transport to Detroit, since that is an inland port. If you're lucky, your dealership will source a vehicle that is exactly to your specifications. That source vehicle could possibly already be ordered, or in transit. So as long as that source vehicle is not committed to anyone else, you can secure it with a deposit. Congrats and enjoy! |

i won't buy another from the n.american companies, quality and design is a big issue. i don't think they give a shit with the small cars they make, they just throw them together and hope you will buy the piece of crap,
whereas the japanese tend to put more effort into the small cars that they make, also, toyota seems committed to creating more jobs here in n.america, and as others have pointed out, the big 3 are shipping jobs elsewhere anyway so no sense in being loyal to them, they aren't loyal to us. |

I've seen too many of my relatives and friends have to constantly take their american manufactured cars in for service. I'll sadly never buy an american manufactured car. Japense made vehicles seem even better than european cars. I'd rather be driving the car than having it in for work all the time.

We'll see. I think the American car companies are finally realizing they can't just sail by with bad products. The American car brands are coming up with some pretty good products, however I am simply not going to buy a car made in mexico.
Toyota makes Camry's, Camry Hybrids, Corolla, Tundra, Matrix, 4 cyl engines, 6 cyl engines, 8 cyl engines all in the USA. And I think I prolly missed some.
