Scangauge 2 : Anyone using one ? If so ,

how accurate is it to the calculated gas mileage ? Thinking of getting one to help see water temperature . What should the normal water temperature be ? Wish the Yaris had a temperature gauge . Last , can S.G.2 be calibrated to be more closer to the calculated gas mileage ? Thanks .

I've got the scangauge E. It's pretty close to what my fuelly calculations say.

I don't know what this means. The scangauge shows the fuel economy based on your actual fuel consumption, I'm not sure what would be more accurate than that?

I'll take a look at my water temperature and get back to you.

It can be very accurate. It takes like 3 tanks to calibrate it. However, I set mine to read worse than what I'm actually getting simply to make me try to get better gas mileage. lol

Normal water temp, at least for my car is 179*-184*. The cool light turns off at 128*, so don't start driving hard right after it turns off, give it a few more minutes. iirc, the fan turns on around 205*.

So is it bad that I take off out of my driveway at 55mph when it's -4F out?

It hasn't been a problem with any of my cars yet. Although none of them have held lower gears like this one. I usually try to keep it under 3000rpm. On the plus side it only takes about a mile to get the cold light to shut off.

lol, I would still give it a couple of minutes after the cold light shuts off before smashing on it.

I have one built in on my motorcycle (Honda ST1300)

You can set it for average mpg (which is fairly accurate maybe +- 2mpg?) or instant mpg. The instant is good because it registers an immediate increase when you slow down etc so it may help you get more out of a gallon of gas.

I suppose if you want to know something in particular its helpfull. And that might come up from time to time.

I think most people get bored with this sort of thing and forget about it after a while.

What do you have your overall gas mileage calibrated (set) at ? Thanks for all of the input.

For the ST1300? Riding to work 6.5 miles away in winter Im getting 33 mpg. Thats with a 700 watt hot plate heating the engine for an hour before leaving. Without it would get 28 mpg.

I have the mileage thingee set to average. It takes 3 gallons to go 100 miles and thats what the gauge says.

For trips at 75 mph in summer the bikes gets 44 mpg. Its has an electric windshield that goes up and down. The gas computer is smart enough to know with the winshield all the way up mpg is 41. All the way down...44.

Im not sure its all that great to have that feature. Once you play with it you tend not to use it after a while. Like a tachometer. Once it tlls you what it knows you dont need it anymore.

Besides on a motorcycle to want to be looking where you are going not staring at the dashboard.

You might say the same for a car too.

I have a Scangauge E .. and well I don't use it anymore, though it is still hooked up. I just used to spend too much time looking at it and I felt it was a hazard. I just kind of ignore it now.

Trying to use the ScanGauge to "correct" your fuel use when you're in traffic is useless because usage is too dependent on other peoples' driving and you'll just run into someone's buttbumper if you spend that much time watching it. The only time it's marginally useful in on long highway trips, when you can set the cruise control and entertain yourself by watching how efficient it is.

Same here. Plus I've used the MPG readout on any rental car I've ever had without any problems.
