looking to fit an 8" kenwood sub under seat
hey all...i'm looking to fit a low profile 8" excelon sub ( http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Car_Entert...ers/KFC-XW800F ) in a downfiring, sealed, box with a 1" gap and a shaped/molded baseplate to force sound out to the front and rear.
any way, mounting depth is less than 3", with a 1" gap at bottom, and 1.5" for wood/carpet. it'll be close. any way, looking to fit under seat, preferably under drivers. anyone have any ideas if it'll fit? local car shop wants 700 for a custom box and install, not including 6.5's or amp. |

Having just made an enclosure for an 8" woofer...and seriously looked at the option of underseat...it can be done. ...It won't sound as good as it can however...
You referenced using "wood" (MDF) well...3/4" on all sides? That will sap precious space away. I'm looking at those enclosure recommendations...unless I'm mistaken, you're not going to have the room under that seat. I put an ID 8 into a .46 of a cube and it wouldn't fit under a Yaris seat no matter how you changed the enclosure. You might also look at using a vario vent to "shrink" the enclosure. Honestly, $700 is par for the course on a "difficult" enclosure like you're proposing. I have an idea of how they'd prolly accomplish it because we looked at the same type of thing in my wife's Tacoma. ...don't forget about the airbag plugs under the seat too. Also I'd put the enclosure under the passenger's seat. My spider sense tells me it'll sound better there. This is .46 of a cube with 3 inch legs: Yes, I forgot to round off the edges...I was just so into hearing the enclosure I got ahead of myself...

Indeed. The space truly is inadequate...
