Conflicting answers-bolt size removal drum
I have read quite a few posts and get different answears as to what is the correct bolt size to remove drum.
I have NEW drums and want to use the bolts to back off the old drum...what is the exact/correct bolt size? Thanks in advance. P.S Tapping and banging with hammer is NOT how I want to remove drum as suggested from some research. |

M8 x 1.25
Takes 15 seconds to search this forum to find that. The bolts that secure the hood hinge are the same size and people (again mentioned on the site) will remove one if they find drums ate stuck. Of course you put it back when done. Sent from my Elite_5_5_Octa using Tapatalk

Okay I will remove 1 from each side and see how it goes.
Wont be till next weekend though. Off topic: I have read that I may need to back off shoes as this these could get caught in the grooves in the drum causing removal problem/s? Parking brake will be OFF of course. |

I've never backed off the shoes as I found it hard to do with the drum still installed since that little "window" behind the shoes with the rubber plug in it is so small and you cannot see what you're doing.
I've just air chiseled the drum off and every time I remove it I take my air grinder and grind down the lip that is created so I don't have that issue in the future.

I think what some are referring to is the shoes themselves binding on a groove on the inside wall of the drum. Remeber new drums are going on aswell. |

Why? Don't complicate your life.
Have you confirmed that your drums are indeed stuck, or just speculating that they probably will be?

In the top of the backing plate theres a rubber plug you can remove to insert a screwdriver to back off the brake shoe adjustment. Thats if the drum wont fit over the shoes. good luck! tell us what happens!

In your case you are installing new drums so that doesn't matter
