Used Oil Analysis : 2010 3 door Yaris : 4,341 mis. on oil and 16,611 miles on engine

PENNZOIL conventional 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) , TOYOTA oil filter 90915-YZZF2 . Air filter is factory installed . Replaced with SHELL full synthetic 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) and TOYO oil filter . Previous 2 O.C.s were SHELL conventional 5w-30 ( SM/GF-4 ) and TOYO oil filters . Plan to get U.O.A.s every 35,000 mis. or so to check for possible coolant , engine wear , and oil performance . We're thinking of getting another analysis for the '08 sedan that had head cylinder gasket replaced . Will likely post that in near future .

that's a first oil change, let's see where you're at next change. there's gonna be other stuff in there than a normal engine from assembly and wearing down sharp edges. i'd like to check mine, but i'm not gonna pay for it...i dont know how much it is, but it's not worth it to me.

That's your choice not to. I just thought other members would like to know how the 1NZFE engine breaks in over time.

Thanks for doing the oil analysis !

I would attach a compiled 1NZFE UOA listing (mostly from BITOG) in CSV format but it now exceeds the attachment size limit of the forum interface.

That's the regular Pennzoil 5w-30 in the yellow bottle that's SN/GF-5.

Hey Hershey thanks for posting.

Craigq-you are the man! Thanks a lot for those compilations, that is awesome!

In the latter set the Schaeffer's and RLI reports were mine.

The last UOA I did was the Dyson/RLI 0W-20. I am very proud of that report. Note the total engine miles. The car only had 5k on it when that oil was installed so the aggressive break in strategy I employed must have worked. Also I should note the Dyson test includes larger particles than the other labs (up to 15 microns)

Not bad for 20 wt veggie oil!

I've got some Castrol Edge I'm going to do a run on and get another Dyson done on it. If you guys are interested I'll post it here.

Thanks again both of you for sharing that data here!

Thanks for the UOA. What happened with the viscosity?
I'd love to see a UOA of somebody with a older and high mileage 1NZ-FE (ie 2000 Echo) to see what I can expect from my car in the future.

That's fine . Be easier to monitor others YARII ( 1NZ-FE ) and possibly those of the NZ family ( Prius , 1.3Ltr. , etc. ) .

" Thanks again both of you for sharing that data here! "

Welcome . We'll likely post another in a month or so for the 2008 that had the H.C.G. replaced at 23,747 mis. . They used the black F.I.P.G. ( Form In Place Gasket ) sealant for the timing chain and other areas . Will be interesting to see the results after the fix . It'll be past 30,000 miles in a few days . Have used a few short fills of SHELL conventional 5w-30 ( SM/GF-4 ) for flushes after the H.C.G. replacement and the U.O.A. oil will be PENNZOIL Y.B. conventional 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) . TOYO 90915-YZZF2 used for all O.C.s along with new TOYO air filter installed 9/18/2010 at 24,359 miles . Do all oil changes myself .

" What happened with the viscosity? "

This seems to be fairly common for these engines from the other U.O.A.s I've seen . Including Prius ( 1.5Ltr.) . Fuel dilution is the likely culprit from others conclusion . Thinking of getting a U.O.A. of the 2010 3 door with recent fill of the SHELL full synthetic 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) and Toyo oil filter to see if there's less shear than the PENNZOIL Y.B. conventional 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) . That won't be for 6 months or the nearing of 5,000 miles ( warranty ) , whichever one comes first .

Here's test results for major manufacturers conventional 5w-30 , S.M./GF-4 motor oils , http://www.pqiamerica.com/testresults3a.html . Don't think they've got to the S.N/GF-5 oils as of yet . Hopefully soon . You'll notice the SHELL conventional is 226 for MOLY , the U.O.A. for the 2010 YARIS showed 219 for the PENNZOIL Y.B. 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5) with 2 previous fills of the SHELL conventional 5w-30 , SM/GF-4 . So , tells of about same MOLY content for SHELL SM/GF-4 and PENNZOIL SN/GF-5 oils . Imagine the SHELL SN/GF-5 would be the same .
