My First Vintage Receiver...
I felt that I had to take pics of my first vintage piece before it heads out to inner sound tomorrow morning:
I'm loving this piece! It's even got the "2" bulb(s) not working and I still am enamored with it. My wife was complaining that she had to haul it inside...a 4'11" woman hauling in something that's half her size. The thing weighs 50 lbs... She said she was waiting for Chrissy, Janet, and Jack to walk in the house to the Three's Company theme.

It reminds me when I had a "Sansui Seven" receiver with a pair of "JBL L100" speakers.
I eventually connected them to a 350 watt RMS per channel , Heathkit amp . Now, that was a monster! |

I'm looking at picking up a Sansui AU-6500 amplifier here in a couple days. I've got a couple pairs of Hybrid Audio speakers that I'm making into a two way monitor setup.

As far as I'm concerned the mid to late '70s were the golden days of audilo and a flat response was the holy grail.
Now, most people just want a bomming bass and they could care less about the overall qualty. They have no idea what a flat respose is. They think the sole purpose of a hight powerd amp is to make make speakers play louder. I can't tell you how many times I have said to people that I want a flat frequency respose and their reactions are usually something to the effect of "why do you want a flat sounding system"?. They haven't a clue. I remember when disco gained a foothold and then, all most people were interested in was a booming bass and it seems it's been that way ever since...... They want junk so, the manufactures sell them junk. I'll take good analog audio from that era over poorly designed crap digital audio any day. BTW, I recently bought this EQ from e-Bay for $10. That was not a bid, that is what they were selling it for. The seller did not seem to know what its purpose really was for saying that they had no idea why someone would need that many tone controls. They probably were selling an older, deceased relative's equipment or something. I don't know if I will ever use it where I'm presently living but, I could not pass it up for the price. Then again, I just may use it for the 2.1 sys I'm currently putting togerher for my new TV that will also seve as all around system for music in my apartment. I had an eq when i was 20 yrs old -1985 because i had one pair of EPI speakers and one pair of bose 201's and the eq was an attempt at trying to make both sound good at the same time. [ impossible really. I should have bought another pair of EPI's when i had the chance]
My eq had the light on each slider and a 10 band graphic level screen- lit up like a Tijuana disco. i got $50 for it when i picked up a nice 2 speaker system with polks/carver/HK/yamaha. I shoulda never sold that stuff. i bet the carver cube is still working someplace. nice sansuii, congrats. |

Yeah, I miss those days of walnut, glass and metal components.
Now, everything is plastic. |

Any pics of the inside of that Sansui?
I have a Fisher 400 with four 7868 tubes. When I got it, my wife couldn't believe the sound quality compared to all the current solid state stuff. Put on some good quality vocals and this thing sings (especially Christmas music). |

Growing up my dad had a Sansui 5000. I can remember as a kid loving to look at the lights and meters... One day it blew one of the amps out of it and my dad and I built another amp for it from a schematic and solid state components bought from radio shack. It worked for several months like that till the amp IC blew and let out the magic smoke. Purchased another amp chip and worked for less time and blew again. He tossed the whole thing in the trash after that. I think the amp IC's were pretty expensive for the time and he didnt want to mess with it anymore.
ahhh memories... Sansui 5000

Cool.
If anyone's interested, I'm about to sell a complete mid-1980s Bang/Olufsen 5000-series stereo system (which still sounds awesome).

Back then, a Thorens tuntable was what you got if you could not afford a Bang/Olufsen.
BTW ....FWIW.... I just got an "Audiosource amp100" 2 ch amp to go with the EQ. It gets great reviews and can be had for under $100. It's a great very versitile amp with old fasioned quality for a simple stereo sys, HT, Zone 2 etc. http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr...25691&read&3&4 Quaity is stiil out there but, you have to really look for it through the haze of audio junk. |

my first was a 67 jensen. it had 4' tall speakers with 2 8", 2 6", and 2 1" speakers in them. it was 100x2 + 100x2, had 2 inputs, one labeled track and one labeled phone. it was awesome.
my wife decided to destroy them when we got divorced. |
