You don't have to add anything else, but you can.
What intake did you install?

3" on the intake diameter is too big. You will likely have engine stumbles and a CEL. The MAF is very sensitive on this car. I think it's not recommended to go larger than 2¼-2½". Let us know how it runs though. And no, an exhaust is not required and the gains are marginal at best.
Me personally, if I'm going to modify one end of the car, I may as well modify the other. -C

If you can only afford the CAI at first, that's fine, but if you want to see bigger performance gains, you should plan on upgrading the intake and exhaust manifolds, as well as the mid-pipe and cat-back sections. Think of it like adding a larger diameter section to a drinking straw: you can only pull as much liquid through it as the most restrictive section will allow.
I've considered this, but I think it would be best paired with a new intake manifold and possibly the 1zz throttle body. Spend some time browsing the performance mods section and see what other people's feedback is on their mods. |

I did a CAI for free. 2 1 1/2" hole saw holes drilled in the air box towards the fender. Free. You can hear the difference. Since this is a cheap ass car it only seems right. Check it out, I will provide pics if requested.
