Scion iM
Anyone else interested in the Scion iM? Seems like a cooler Yaris/Matrix mixup.
I'm interested in it.

I'm interested. I like it in basic original form, but it looks terrible in Scion trim.

I have to agree. The Scion iM version of this Toyota hatch looks a bit over-the-top and definitely geared towards flashy teenagers and twenty-somethings. The upcoming iA looks ever worse - at least the front does. /facepalm

The jury is still out for me on the trapezoid shaped grill. I didn't really "take" to the Yaris version with the bright metal trim, either. I'm a large / tall guy, so I'll always prefer a 2 door to a 4 door compact or sub compact.

Toyotacarsandtrucks.com refers to the Scion iM as "basically a twin brother of the Toyota Auris and Corolla wagon, and with also a part of the DNA from the Lexus CT 200h".

The front-end styling is the real deal-breaker for me on the iM. Same with the iA. The rest of the iM actually looks rather good, overall - though definitely not low-key or conservative by any stretch. I like the taillights/rear-design, as well as the side-profile. I'm still not a fan of any black/silver alloy wheel designs, but the ones on the iM are OK (unlike the gaudy/eyesore ones on the Corolla S and Yaris SE). Perhaps an iM in black might tone-down and conceal that weak/bad front bumper design.

The Toyota Auris is really a nice car. Leave it to Scion to mess it up for the American market!

The Toyota Auris pictured above looks really good and reasonably conservative/elegant, though I would never buy it in that color. It would look awesome in white. I wish that the iM had carried over that particular front design. I also like the alloy wheels on it, for a change. :)

I really don't understand why Toyota continues with the Scion brand. Most of their vehicles could be incorporated into Toyota. Why not have the Corolla 5door instead of the iM?
Last I read, Scions don't even sell that well. |

Scion could be doing a lot better, but the blame is squarely on Toyota. They let the lineup grow old and stagnant, and the lineup has never been really good. Most models are misses. A few hits. But then the redesign, if there is one is half assed. Kind like the GEO of the automotive world.

I took my car in for it's 18 month service today. They had an iM at the dealership. It was the first one I've seen. I must say in person it looks better than in pictures. I wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did. Still I wish they would have just brought the Auris straight over without trying to Scionize it.
Was hoping to get a glimpse of an iA as well but they didn't have one. I'll stick with the Yaris. |
