New Denso alternator hinge nut positioning
TLDR; how to move the denso alternator hinge nut so alternator doesn’t make sounds/sits more snug on mounting arm.
Hello all. Time came to replace my 2007 alternator after almost 16 years. I went to densoautoparts.com, put my vin, got the alternator model and it showed densoproducts.com as a vendor (they are not denso, but carry parts). They only had a remanufactured, 12 month warranty, and bought it. It was cheaper than getting the same denso from Toyota. To take the old denso alternator out I had to wiggle it, and the new one with no issues to put in, no friction. All went well, but now I hear a noise when driving/accelerating/revving. Removed it again, compared to the old one, and noticed that the bottom nut on the old alternator protruded to the inside, allowing it to be more secured to the mounting point in the engine, on the new one this nut is flush and found out this creates the noise due to vibration, even when I tighten it well. Question is, how can I move this nut? I tried putting a screwdriver through and hitting the screwdriver with a hammer, didn’t move and messed up the screwdriver a bit. However, I have no other tools other than my 99-piece (I think) Home Depot husky toolbox. Attached are pictures for reference on the nut. Last edited by rodrigogar; 03-20-2023 at 09:33 PM. its "press/slide" fit IE if its loose..it will tighten as you tighten the unit down...if its too tight put the bolt in and smack the bolt a few times to knock the nut away some
common practice on this style of mount |

thank you sh0rtlife. Investing in a torque wrench, perhaps making sure the torque is the toyota value might make this move accordingly.
