Why does everyone compare the Yaris vs Fit...
Why does everyone compare the Yaris vs the Fit rather than the Civic?? The Civic gets better mpg's than the Fit and they are basically the same starting price. I think the Yaris Sedan is more like the base Civic than a base fit.

Because the Civic is categorized as a "compact" while both the Fit and Yaris are categorized as "sub-compacts?"

People always compare models within intended segments. In this case, these two cars are the two entry level sub-compacts so that makes them automatic competitors. Problem is, Honda can't build a cheap car anymore so what we have is everyone screaming that the Fit is better while ignoring the actual prices.
Yes, the Fit's truest competitor is the xD. It matches up in just about every way: size, price, power, standard features, both 5-door hatches, available navi, ect. But hey, Toyota simply offers many more car options than Honda. With Honda, you have the choice of the Fit or the Fit. While Toyota offers the Yaris sedan, 3 door LB, 5 door LB, Scion xD, Scion xB (still less than top line Fit). |

Granted there are other cars in this segment. The Fit is the closest competitor on size, price (depending on model) and features for the most part. Also mpg. And its Toyota's or one of Toyota's arch rival.

I like both the Fit and Yaris (and xD, plus I own a Civic).
I think Toyota vs. Honda thing is kind of like the battle of the Japanese Goliaths; both manufacturers are usually at the top of their games.

celica's "match" would be the integra/RSX
can't reaally compare S2K to MR2, they're quite different in many ways... MR2 to Mazda Miata/MX5 is a better comparison I would say

Ok, quiz: If the celica's match is the integra, who was the direct competition for the prelude (when they were still manufacturing it)?

Not me, before I purchased I compared the Yaris to a Kia Rio or Suzuki SX4. I even considered the Chevy Aveo5 for a split second until I came to my senses.

I compared the Yaris to the Fit because I was looking for a hatch, and the Civic unfortunately no longer comes in hatch form in the US. I ended up w/ the Yaris because of the weak highway mpg w/ the manual tranny in the Fit.
