Correct air filter not fitting right in sedan?
I recently bought the exactly air filter needed for a 2010 Yaris sedan. It was a Fram version and upon installing, a tiny part of the corner was sticking out when I would go to close the air filter lid and snap the clips back on. 3 of the 4 sides of the cover closed, but the one tip would not, thus leaving one clip on and one clip off. I kept switching back and forth between the factory installed toyota filter and the fram one, and the toyota one was fitting perfectly. The FRAM filter is definitely the correct model number. Instead of trying to cut the extended tip off, I just decided to let it be and it hangs out a tiny, tiny bit. Haven't noticed anything different in the mileage or driving, just was annoying. Not sure if anyone else had any issues changing theirs? This was my first filter change, I was at around 16,000 miles.

Not sure if the 2010 changed things, but on my 2007.
The filter has three round corners and one square corner. It only went in one way or the cover didn't fit. My replacement was a FRAM. |

I just changed my air filter yesterday and it fit no problem, one issue though is the clips on the bottom.
if you are looking at the engine bay from the front of the car on the left side of the air filter housing there are 2 protruding pieces that slide into clips - if these don't get into the clips properly then the air filter housing won't close. I installed a fram also, # CA10190 |

Anyone noticed that when the air filter is in place, it takes some power to close the 2 clips on the right? I felt like i was forcing it...

I kind of place them where they need to be and then wiggle them gently until they pop into place. It can take a minute to get it right but I did not have to really force them they are just tricky to get in

When sliding the top of the air filter housing in place in the slots make sure not to pinch the fold of the air filter . Easy to do . Can be a bit of nuisance .

I only buy the OEM part.
This way there's no surprises. As a footnote, My Yaris feels clogged up when I run my K&N filter so I just stick with stock...

I have been running a K&N for over 2 years in my Yaris and have had absolutly no problems.
In fact, I ran a K&N in my Celica for over 8 years without a single problem. |

The filter on the Yaris takes a little work to get it right. Keep trying until it closes tight.

07 Yaris secondary airfilter1
I just changed my airfilter on my Yaris today and noticed that there is, what looks like another filter element in the top of the filter housing. I never noticed it before. Does that thing just pop out or what?

That is a a "carbon Trap" to minimize air polution.
It prevents gas vapors from backing up through the intake when parkred. It's held in place by plastic rivets. Some have taken it out with no apperent bad effects but, removing it is controversial as removing it does not really help performance to any noticeable degree. |
