Aftermarket Stereo / Speaker Specifications

TO Admins: Please Sticky this Post

I thought it would be a good idea to post + sticky this thread for quick reference for those who wish to install aftermarket stereos, speakers, and anything else that may come up as a FAQ.

If there is any information that is incorrect, please feel free to correct me. Any additions are just as welcome so we can make this thread the ultimate reference for stereo info for the Yaris.

Dash Kits - Single Din / ISO Mount
Metra 99-8216
American International TOY K969

Dash Kits - Double Din / ISO Mount
Metra 95-8202

Harnesses - Plugs Directly into Vehicle Plug (for aftermarket stereo)
Metra 70-1761
Best Kit BHA1761
Scosche TA02B

Speaker Sizes - Hatchback 3DR/5DR
Front L+R 6.5"
Rear L+R 5.25"

Speaker Sizes - Sedan
Front L+R 6.5"
Rear L+R 6" x 9"

Speaker Spacers/Brackets for Oversized Speakers (ie. Components, Midwoofers, etc)
For those of you installing larger speakers with big magnets, you may want to use spacers to allow your speakers to be mounted to the door.

I've created a template for the spacer for the hatchback speaker locations found here: http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1930
At minimum you should use 1/2" MDF for appropriate clearance for the magnet when your window is completely down.

Scosche" bracket

I have changed my front and rear speakers and I did not need a "bracket or spacer"

hasher,

I am afraid I do not have an answer for you.
I have not replaced the front/rear speakers so I can't answer you!

From what I've read, it's possible to use the existing bracket/spacer because the (stock) rear speaker size is a little larger than 5.25".

haha thats ok, i baught 6.5 inch speakers for the rear of my yaris....

but the stocked brackets are too small (the rear ones).....so i need to buy some brackets that will acually meet the holes so i can screw it in. (I dont wanna rivet it in)

I baught MDF Wood 6.5 Inch speaker brackets.......the 6.5 inch speakers fit well on the MDF Wood brackets, but its not big enough to meet the 3 rivet holes in the rear. ARRG!!

this is a good idea to sticky this, wish i would have seen this before i went to the local shop today to get the dash kit.

i knew they wouldnt have it in stock, but figured they could order it, they check thier local distro. and didnt have any. so he got on the phone with Metra directly in florida, and they only said they had the Double din kit, i asked about a pouch/blank for it...but said it was just a double din...wish i would have jsut had the part number for them...gues ill have to go back there tomorrow and give it to them....

there is a solution, cut an adapter out of MDF, and there you go :)

outside should fit the stock location, and the inside should fit your new speakers.

but to fit "bigger" speakers in the location 6.5 > 6 you may need to do some cutting to the rear deck, or do some creative tapering on your MDF ring

From a physics standpoint, a 6.5" can be engineered to sound better than a 6x9 ever can.

really? I never knew a 6.5" can outperform a 6x9". When i was reading the first few posts on this thread i was wondering why would one replace a 6x9 with a 6 or 6.5. the bigger the dome the more power and bass you get right?

What is the difference between single din and double din for a head unit mounting kit?

Ok so I figured out the difference. If I obtain one of these kits, realistically, how hard is it to replace? Will I need any other parts? How long will it take for an amateur?
