"Maintenance Required" Light
Okay, what's it mean when this blinks a couple of times as you start the engine? I know; D'OH, but I wonder if it hasn't always done this and I just haven't noticed (I have a habit of overlooking idiot lights, you know)...
It doesn't STAY on; blinks a couple of times, then stops. Oil change time? |

without seeing the light flash, i would possibly say that it would be the prove out circuit, however, until you are sure, stop by your local parts store and ask them to pull codes for you... if no codes, then i would say that it would be the prove out circuit...

It starts blinking 500 miles BEFORE an oil change is needed and as you get closer to the 5,000, 10,000 etc. mile markers the light blinks long and when you actually GET to those mile markers it will remain lit until the oil is changed and the light reset.
It's in the owners manual.

You have to reset it yourself if your mechanic doesn't do it.
Instructions are in the owner's manual. |

1. Set the Odometer display to Trip A via the small push button on the gage cluster.
2. Turn off the engine. 3. Turn on the engine while holding the push button in. 3a. Continue to hold the button until the display zeros out or shows all dashes. 4. Let go and turn off the car. 5. The Maintenance Required idiot light is now reset to the next 5K miles. If this is your first oil change in a 2008, consider a bike or segway instead. |

So what is it; what do I look for (besides a service station); just an oil change reminder?

It blinks before you need to get it changed as a reminder. Then goes constant the very mile you NEED your oil changed. Check the Yaris manual, says same thing in there.

Hey, is there anything wrong with cross-posting? Didn't look like that one got as much "traffic," so to speak... Yes, I'm due for an oil change; glad it's JUST that!

It wants you to stop at the parts store on the way home this week, to get the 3-1/2 quarts and the little filter.
Then late on Saturday morning, get under the front end and change the oil. Monday, while warming it up for the drive to work, follow the instructions in the manual to reset the idiot light. |
