Yaris while a Driving Instructor

I picked up a scangauge to figure out where I'm losing most of my mileage while working. I'm a driving instructor, and expected to be getting less than idea mileage, but I'm generally only getting 500km per fillup.

When I checked out my numbers yesterday, I was surprised. On my trip to and from work, 5.5 to 6 litres per 100km.

Did some city/country driving after work yesterday, 5.2L/100km.

At work? average between 8 and 10 litres per 100km. Students need to learn how to parallel park in less than 30 minutes -.-

Wow! I never even thought about the "new driver effect". Thanks for sharing.

interesting findings.

80kph backroads are great for mileage. iirc, i got 5.1L/100km on my first tank doing backroads from fredericton to moncton, along the northumberland straight, along the NS border then back to moncton and fredericton....was about 700km when i filled it up from almost empty

Sounds good, though I don't know just how good liters/kilometers you're getting.
We Yanks are MPG people....

Just an update, it's amazing how the scangauge has brought down my mileage.

After a few days of using it, I'm now getting ~6.5L/100km after a day of lessons, with a lot of it from changes in the way that I drive. Heh, I'm also telling students to be a lot gentler on the gas (as long as it's safe) and starting to notice the red lights a lot further away to brake earlier.

He's expressing it in terms of the fuel consumed over a specific distance, so as it gets better, the numbers come down. "Mileage" normally means miles per gallon, so as it gets better the numbers go up.

Ah, what I meant to say is it has decreased my fuel consumption :)

For those of us using litres/100km, lower numbers are better than higher numbers since it's measuring fuel spent as opposed to distance driven.

I think that's great mileage under the circumstances. Your students are getting driving and hypermiling instruction all at once.
