Carpc / netbook best installed location

Hi guy,

Need some comments for where to install a netbook to be useds as a carpc.

In the past I had tried many indash solutions, either to replace the HU or DIY a HU with 7" touchscreen. I find the OS "WinCE5-6.0" quite useless for any mods.

I've got a nice 7" Touchscreen in which I mounted right in front of my stock 6CD changer using the gap under the HU. I have found some interesting places to where I can put the headless Acer Aspire netbook.

Right under the centre console just below the 12V plug, messy cables but hits my right leg when driving.

Under the passenger seat either Velroed or hanging under the seat "Winter and rainyday concerns" and back passenger might just step on it.

Trunk >> already have a bazooka but if I put it in the back why not put a mini-case instead?

Glove compartmentL great location, hidden but no air ventalation

BUT I have found a big space right behind the glove box right next to the Air filter, anyone think its a good place. I don't see anything that can go wrong, I do see the Windshield water lines thats all

Comments please :)

Pics will come shortly

The only issue with behind the glove box is that you are right under the passenger airbag, so any catastrophic failure of the laptop could result in generating too much heat under the airbag. Other than that, it's not a bad location. The other thing you could do is cut out the back of the glove box to allow ventilation. (And then you have easy access to your hardware, by just opening the glove box.)

Which acer are you using? I'm typing on a AOD250 right now. I've considered a nettop or "broken" netbook for a car PC as well. Curious to see how it goes.

I'm using a AOA-150 ZG5 right now. 1.5G Ram 200G 7200rpm, running Windows XP Pro and Centrafuse 3.0 After measuring the bottom or passenger seat I think it will mount there. The width of the netbook is just perfect, as it doesn't block the vent. I can use velcro and hide all the cables inside the gear console. Three are 3 unused slots and I think I'll make a power on switch and and some USB female slots for my iphone and for data transfer. Pictures will be updated when have major progress
