Suspension install: Spring Compressors?
Every suspension install I've ever done I've had to use spring compressors -- except my xB. The front springs just popped off, unlike most springs, they weren't under a lot of tension.
Do you need to use spring compressors for the Yaris front suspension? I assume the rears are like the xB, where you simply unbolt the rear struts and "wiggle" the rear springs off their perches?

when i did the springs on my car, the rears came out easily, the fronts...they didnt seem to be under too much load but i'm glad i had compressors.

I'll probably use them just in case, then. Better safe than sorry, eh?

Ya I used compressors when I did mine. Heck just go to Auto Zone and get some. I think they do the rent a tool with springs compressors just pay a deposit and then bring it back and get your money refunded.

I assume the fronts weren't under a lot of tension (like the way my xB was)? Literally, I undid the nut on the top and they just kinda popped and that was it. Same with the Yaris?

You'll need spring compressors to remove the front springs from the strut but not to install the new springs into the strut, at least not with Tanabe springs. I suppose you could remove the front springs without a compressor but be careful, a spring under load can be a dangerous thing.
Just rent them from an Autozone or Checker Auto. You get all your money back if you return them in 2 days. Free rental... ![]() |

You do not need spring compressors to remove the stock springs, or install lowering springs. There is little to no tension on them, they pop about 3 inches. The coilovers probably require you to use the top hat on the front struts, so the front springs need to be removed from the struts.
