Stock radio/speaker specs?
Can anyone tell me the specs for the stock stereo equipment in a 08 liftback?
IE. Head unit output per channel, speaker ohms, etc. Thanks in advance. |

I really don't know, but just think in the most affordable cheap set up a company car would use for an economical car. For me it's almost useless.
"Head unit output per channel"... maybe 10 or 12 watts "speaker ohms"... my guess is 4 Front Speakers... LINK Rear Speakers on Sedan ... LINK Sorry. Derick.

toyota claims 17rms... but realistically its closer to the 10-12rms figure quoted above. Regardless, the amp, like with any other deck, is weak. If you want better sound, get an amp (50x2 or better) and then a set of aftermarket speakers.

I bought the car without a stereo, but it has speakers. My intent is to build a custom amp.
It's just for fun. I'm trying to use my iPhone as the head unit. Right now, the plan is to charge the phone, play music (Pandora), and look sleek. Also, I want the dash to be as unappealing to thieves as possible. The phone comes with me and the head unit looks nearly blank. In the future, if I get serious about my sound, I want to upgrade to better speakers and obviously I'll need a new amplifier. That probably won't happen for a very long time, though. |

An amp that will fit inside the space of the stock head unit? Most amps are pretty big. Also, finding a stand-alone amp under 50W output is kinda difficult. Aftermarket amps tend to start around 50W and go up.
I've considered getting a hold of some random stock head unit and ripping it apart, extracting the amp from it, etc. |

There's a lot of room below the head unit, behind the air flow knobs.
