Quick yaris speaker install...

So I got some new speakers for my Yaris LB yesterday

They are Jaycar Precision Response, 6in Kevlar splits.

Here they are

I decided to gut the old speaker housings and use them as spacers (mostly because the new speakers fit perfectly inside them, and I'm lazy.

The speakers are held into the door with 3 rivets, which i drilled out.

Old speaker ready to be gutted

Old speaker gutted

Speaker housing mounted, i used 3 little bolts/nyloc nuts.

New speaker test fitted in the housing, its held in with 3 bolts/nyloc nuts

I decided to mount the tweeters in these panels, so here it is prepared

Tweeter fitted

Door nearly back together....

all back togehter :)

Overall I am very happy with the quality of these speakers, especially considering the price I paid for them.

Great photos.

Why did you drill out the rivets and remove the plastic speaker housing?
I just left mine on the door, and gutted it out with a knife and a hacksaw blade.

You did not show us where you mounted the x-over boxes.

Also, do you have an aftermarket HU? Any amps or subs?

How much power you putting to those new puppies?

I seen other people mount tweeters in that same location.
Mixed results.
That puts them way off axis from the mids. I heard they sound too harsh there.
Did you pad them on the X-over? ( -3db )

So.... how does it all sound to you? Success? Not sure yet?

Well, in hindsight I should have left them in, but I didn't realize the speaker could be removed with the housing in the door at the time. oh well.

The crossovers are mounted inside the door at this stage, but I will most likely move them to the door pockets (so they don't get wet)

They are just running off the head unit at the moment, which is still factory.... But I will probably amp them when I change the HU.

In the car also is my sub/amp combo from my celica (its off the road atm) which is an Eclipse SW7200 + XA1000... just bring run with a LLC (not the best SQ in the world, but it works)

The tweeters are actually on +3db at the moment (I like having high treble) but it is a bit harsh, so i will probably set it to 0db when I move the xovers.

At the moment it sounds good (for what it is) IMO, aside from the high treble.
