My wife really wants me to add them. I have Clazzio leather seat covers (from MicroImage) which will make it very easy when I finally get around to doing it. On uncovered stock seats it would be a hassle, as the seat fabric is glued to the foam.
This place sells kits and has the install documentation online. Their cheapest kit for two seats is $180. http://www.heaterseats.com/products.php |

Yeah, I haven't found any solution besides placing the heating pads under an aftermarket seat cover. I'm trying to find another solution.

Yeah i need a heated seat setup that does not add extra height to the seat
I'm about 6'1" and pretty close to the head liner in one of my favorite seat positions. short of getting different seats or removing the foam from the seat cover seams like a PITA. i like the heater pad idea for warming up the cold brick seats before driving. Its -28C or -20F here so the seats barely warm up while the car is warming up. |

I had them installed at a shop here in Pittsburgh for 400 dollars in my 2005 xb and they were wonderful!

Buy from the retired Marine on eBay. He is awesome to communicate with and has a 100% rating with a lot of them sold. CTScott is correct in that unless you have a solid seat cover you may be out of luck since the seat fabric IS glued to the cushion...one of the dumbest things Toyota did with this car. I paid 150 shipped for 2 of them. I will be installing them really soon since my Clazzios will be here tomorrow. If all goes well they will be in this weekend. Unless something doesn't sit well with them (pardon the pun) I plan on buying a second set for the rear seats too.
Here is the search results for the Marine: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/cobrahea...1&_from=&_ipg= Here is my blog entry on them: http://yarisworld.com/forums/blog.php?b=315

Heated seats are an awesome feature. Yeah, the kit costs around $100, and installation depends on the shop. It could cost anywhere from $100-300.

I received my two kits today. The heating pads look well made and the wiring harness looks very professional. I powered one kit up on the bench and it gets nice and toasty.
The listing said that there are only two wires to hook up and that it includes a relay harness. I was hoping that they meant 2 wires and a ground, but it is literally two wires (power and ground). The reason I was hoping for two plus ground is that I was hoping that the relay harness would be for using a low current ignition switched +12 to switch a high current feed to the pads (to prevent them from being left on and thus killing the battery). The included relay harness is actually what creates the high/low heat modes. In high mode both pads get 12 volts (they are in parallel). In low mode the relay harness switches them to being in series, so they each get 6 volts. So, I will be adding another relay to do the ignition switching. I will install them tonight and will post pics and the DIY shortly thereafter.

Done - DIY coming soon. It took me about an hour and a half to install them, with removing and reinstalling my Clazzio seat covers taking 30+ minutes of that time. I was a bit worried about the Clazzios insulating the heaters too much, but sitting on the seat while buttoning up the console wiring I was able to comfortably roast my hams.
I am going to order one more set for Crashy (as a heated seat would be great while plowing snow). With her, I am going to install it with the OEM seat cover since I already pulled the lower cover a while back as an experiment.

Awesome Scott. I only installed the actual CF pads this weekend. I will wait to see what you post for a DIY with adding in the relay. I was going to actually install them in the rear as well however with how much of a PITA the installation of the Clazzios were for the rear I am leery now.

Scott, when you put them in Crashy, could you take some pics of the OEM seat covers and foam? I know they are glued together, but I'd like to see a picture to get an idea on how WELL they are glued down. Thanks!
