Willow Springs SCCA Double Rational

We are heading up to Willow Springs with both cars for the SCCA Double Rational (combined National and Regional Club Race) this weekend. Jamie Bestwick will be back in the 00 Yaris, and I will again split driving duties in the 99 with one of our friends from Toyota. Both cars are sporting a bit more power than we had at Fontana thanks to the new cams and head work.

If you are in the area drop by.

Got busy and forgot to update this...

We had a good weekend, Jamie finished 3rd both days in the 2012, and is making steady progress - he was really closing the gap on me by Sunday, a little more experience and I will undoubtedly have a battle on my hands.

Saturday our buddy Paul drove the 99, kept his nose clean and had a great time.

Sunday I decided to try the new Hoosier radial slick, like we have been using on Jaime's car, and I turned my quickest lap ever (1:36.4) at Big Willow - just about half second off the track record. Started 1st in class, but around half way the car started to get very loose. I had never done a long run on the tires and thought maybe I had cooked them. I managed to nurse it around for 2nd place.

It was not until later we discovered a slow leak, rather than my tires building up to pressure as they warmed, it was going flat.

Up next is Buttonwillow in Apr. We are going to bring Jaime out early for this one and get a good test day in.

I think +20hp would have taken care of them and that pesky Corvette driver.

We will see what happens next month at Buttonwillow... We should be packing a bit more speed in both cars.

That is ABS plastic, just thick enough to not fall apart, but works great for keeping the glare off the inside of the windshield.

If you want to get your car down to 1800lbs some things have to go.

Looking at the video, I fear I play way too much video games, which can be a bad thing.. I was hoping to see you cut the S2000 on the inside of a curve and gently nudge him out of the way :D

There are times you want to. It was so hard not to stuff the corvette that was parking me in the turns. But all that gets you is bodywork to fix, and a chat with the offcials, neither of which I want at a local race.

Now when you get to the Runoffs its a little different story, its the end of the season and winner takes all. Most guys still race clean, because you pay for your own damage. However, sometimes stuff happens. In 2010 our SSC Sentra went to the big race spotless, came home with every corner but one bent, and a cracked wheel.
