From what I have seen it is supposed to be ISO 9141 compliant.

That may be possible. The scanner may be trying to also maintain a communication stream that the ECM does not support.

Hey Dindy,
Did you have any luck in finding a reader that links with your Vitz. I have been getting the check engine light on my Vitz lately, but the garages here charge an arm and leg for reading the code alone. So I thought it best to just get a reader, but I can't find any concrete source indicating what protocol the Japanese 2001 Vitz uses. So far my best bet is the ELM327 OBDii - OBD2, which says the Japanese Yaris is compatible: http://www.adverts.ie/car-parts-acce...canner/2733586 Did you try this one by chance? Let me know. Thanks buddy. |

JDM cars don't support OBD protocol from my experience. I bought an ELM327 scanner and it refused to connect to my Vitz. I've ordered a Toyota Techstream scanner and I'll see how that goes.

ELM327 cannot work with JDM Vitz, whatever the advertisements say it wont work. Yes the protocol is supported but the way the ECU talks to the software is the problem.
Toyota techstream scanners work with JDM Vitz, and the more expensive JOBD scanners. I was really disappointed with ELM327. I really wanted Torque in my car, I already bought the app and almost bought a tablet so I can have it permanently in my car. |

If I can get my hands on a Vitz ECM, I am going to build an ELM327 compatible device to work with the MOBD protocol, which the JDM cars support.

OK. Then, find me a cheap ECM in a junkyard over there. I actually had a JDM one and a while back I harvested parts off of it, as I didn't think I would ever need it for anything.
