18 'techniques' Cleammpg.com member used to get 9 straight 50 MPG+ tanks in a Yaris
I was performing some searches, trying to determine the 'absolute maximum' fuel capacity (for certain) on a 3rd Gen Yaris (like CTScott did for the 2nd Gen Yaris). This URL came up as one of the hits. I found 'technique' #13 and 'technique' #18 particularly funny. I wonder if this person is a Yarisworld member ?

Interesting. Though, if you reside in the Southern USA, #13 could be an issue. #18 is always going to be a hoot since you can never overestimate the intelligence of the driver next to you.

Re #18, I can't really explain it. I find post #18 funny for the same reason I find Why? 's posts funny. They seem to have similar senses of humor. |

The aerodynamics of the sedan are much better with the sedan. The rear end design of the LB doesn't lead to anything but turbulence.

IIRC, the cleanmpg.com poster also has a sedan. That particular post stated that he had 9 tanks in a row over 50 MPG. I didn't look at any of his other posts to see if he had any more tanks over 50 MPG. I think I've had 3 or 4 tanks over 48 MPG, but zero tanks over 50 MPG. |

There is a Liftback owning YW member (IIRC, in State College, PA) whose overall average is at 50 MPG (or close to it). However, IIRC, he uses quite a few hypermiling techniques (blocked radiator, and others) discussed on hypermiling sites.

Just read the list. All of it it palatable with exception to #11. It is actually illegal in a lot of places to shut off your vehicle at red lights. Dangerous and stupid in my book, but hey, no reason it could piss other drivers off either right?

I shouldn't have used the word 'particularly' in the OP, as it implied that I found all of the suggestions funny or possibly not valid (I didn't). I just found the presentations humorous re #13 and #18. |

But sedans do have better aerodynamics, however the length of the drives and whether highway mileage or not is probably what is making the bigger difference. My best highway mileage is 47, while I am around 40 driving with no sustained freeway type driving.

Well, if you can find the E-0 (non-ethanol) "marine" gasoline, that might help a little. I know I can get 2 to 3 MPG more out of a tank with this fuel.
