Australian Yaris base model cruise control options
Hi
I have had a quick skin through the threads, and have realized that the Australian Yaris does not have the "ability" for cruise control built into the ECM. Just wondering if there any of the aussie's on here in the same boat as me. What are my options, obviously an aftermarket one is the way to go, but any brands in particular, and what did you roughly pay? cheers for any info. |

I recently sold a Rostra kit to someone with a 2nd gen Yaris that was not capable of cruise control and it worked perfectly. The Rostra 250-1796 (for automatic transmission) or 250-1797 (for manual transmission) are the kits which work. The newer Rostra kits do not as they take advantage of the OEM functionality.
They are getting harder to find, as Rostra discontinued the kits a couple of years ago, but it is much less expensive than any of the other aftermarket systems.

Do you need MT or AT? I can typically get ahold of new kits for about $250.

I have cruise on my Australian delivered '07 sedan. I inherited my car when my Dad passed but somewhere I have the original delivery invoice and it shows the cruise fitted pre-delivery. From memory I think that it was around $800 fitted. I may be wrong on the price but am still looking for the invoice. It was fitted by a car sound company on The Gold Coast that must have been contracted by the dealer. I think most car sound companies like Autobarn fit them also. The system in my car is not real good as it appears to be an infra red system that relays messages from buttons on the steering wheel to a small purple receiver unit on the dash. Consequently it will not even go into cruise unless the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position. I tend not to use it unless I am in a 100 zone as it is fiddly to set. On the other hand I also have a '13 VF SV6 Commodore wagon, with integrated cruise, and I use that all the time even in road works 40 zones. From what I read the systems that CTScott has are far better, and would work much better, as they are hard wired via a stalk. Far cheaper, and DIY also, if they are available for your car and Scott ships to our part of the world. Yesterday a relative of mine in Townsville was telling me he was quoted around $1000 to retrofit cruise to a late model Toyota Hilux ute. regards Muz Last edited by aussie muzza; 04-20-2014 at 08:08 PM. |

Thank God for CTScott! He has been very helpful thus far. There is an alternative that I'm chasing up at the moment: VDO Aus. have CC kits for the Yaris too (http://www.airco.com.au/PDF/Cruise_Control_flyer.pdf) - I've sent them an email inquiring about their kits. I'll update this post to let you know how that goes. Edit: He = Scott. Thanks Scott! Last edited by yojabbajabba; 06-09-2014 at 10:55 PM. Reason: clarification of gender |

From VDO Australia:
"Thank you for your inquiry. The note for one of the Toyota Yaris Cruise Control refers to the Control Switch. This particular switch is only available if the vehicle is equipped with the Steering Wheel mounted Audio Controls. There are two other options available, Part Number 412.147 is a Left Hand Stalk and is $565.81 + GST and Part Number 412.148 is a Remote Steering Wheel Switch and is $710.76 + GST. You can purchase the kits from us. Freight would be an additional $15 + GST." - if you can find the 250-1797 kit you can save at least $270! Last edited by yojabbajabba; 06-09-2014 at 09:25 PM. |

Installation manual for Rostra 250-1797 (Non-US 06-08 CC kit)
Hey all,
For future reference/late-night reading, here is the installation manual for the Rostra 250-1797 MT Cruise Control Kit. I hope this helps those of us who don't want to shell out $550+ for a cruise control kit! Last edited by yojabbajabba; 06-12-2014 at 08:00 PM. |
