Been thinking the same exacting. I doubt that we will see a Mazda made Yaris in hatchback form. That's why they have the Scion hatchback which will be a Toyota hatchback.

Aren't the Mazda SkyActive engines supposed to be super economical on gas? However every mechanic I talk to *raves* about the 1.5 litre Toyota engine's reliability.

I also have some concerns that Mazdas are pretty much the only Japanese cars I ever see with rust (at least here in Canada), especially Mazda 3s. So I'm not sure how the Mazda 2s will be on that front.

The mechanic knows his stuff. That engine is bulletproof. And yes, the Skyactiv engines are gas misers. But their is a drastic difference between Mazda and Toyota quality. Hell, there is a drastic difference between Honda and Toyota too. Toyotas will last for decades with proper maintenance and usually provide very few problems.
