Fusible Link?
So my mother in law was using my car and essentially the power steering, brakes, wipers went. Also issues getting it in gear. A shop near her diagnosed it as the alternator. I replaced the alternator, but foolishly didn't remove the battery to do it. All the symptoms are still there, though this altrernator doesn't tick loudly. So from what I've read the issue is likely the fusible link. It doesn't look blown to my eye. Is there a way to test it? And advice on getting it off. The 2 bolts holding the red and black wires are not budging. Any helpful hints? Thanks.

Managed to get the fusible link out. Nothing looked broke. Seemed to have continuity with a multimeter. Decided to clean all terminals and throw it back in the car. Started it up, no change.
Voltage across bettery with car off = 12.2. Across battery with car started = 12.2 Across negative battery and black connection on alternator = 12.2 Did I just replace my alternator with a bad alternator? |

It does sound like the alternator is not outputting. Did you remember to connect the small connector when you replaced it?

Just had to replace the alternator in my '07, but wasn't having any of the issues you described. If I wasn't so auto-repair-useless, I'd be more help to you lol.

Correct. There is a 7.5 A fuse labeled ALT-S. Check that guy, as he feeds battery voltage to the alternator to act as a reference.

Pull that connector, and with the ignition on, but engine not running check for the following:
Green wire -12 Volts from 10A GAUGE fuse Blue wire - 12 Volts from 7.5A MET fuse White wire - 12 Volts from ALT-S fuse Pink wire is output signal from alternator, so it will not show anything

Blue = 12 White = 10 Replaced all 3 fuses. They all looked fine. But I figured why not? No change. Took the original alternator to a parts store. Tested fine. Obviously the issue lies elsewhere. |

If the green is 0.14 volts, then your problem is likely there. That wire is one of the inputs to the voltage regulator.

So I'm thinking look for power on the other side of the.fuse block, maybe run a new wire. Thoughts?

Green, as in the front row, top right connector pictured above.

OK. The next stop is the under dash fuse panel. Did you already check the 10A Gauge fuse under the bottom of that area?

OK - 4B-19 is where the wire exits the fuse panel to head under the hood. Check that wire.
