Really? I guess I stand corrected. Well its the same body type but different engine setup and suspension etc or pretty much a souped up Rabbit or performance version like the Si is to Civic. Okay technically its a 200bhp Rabbit...er GTI.

Going along with what others mentioned, they changed the name to Rabbit again not only to bring back "memories" but also to reach out to a new generation at least that's what they want you to believe.

My friend just got the 2007 GTI and that thing is amazing. He hits the gas and you feel your head jurk back to the head rest. And I drive my girls 2006 VW jetta 2.5 and that thing is alot faster than the yaris and the price difference isnt much. Depends what your looking for fuel economy or speed.

But also taken from Wikipedia.org this may change your mind about the Rabbit:

"The Golf 5 has proven expensive to build - largely due to its uncommonly long 50-hour build time. According to multiple reports in the European press, its replacement is thus likely to be rolled out in 2008, a good two years earlier than originally scheduled. This means that the production run of the U.S. version of the Mark 5, introduced only in 2006 two years after its world debut - is likely to have an uncommonly short production run."

One would think so. That is pathetic!
