K&N air filter noticeable difference?
Hi,
I am thinking of replacing my stock air filter to a higher flow K&N filter. Are there any advantages over the stock one? Any noticeable difference and any reasons to do that? My engine is 1.3 101hp all stock. Link for the filter: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000N...VeL&ref=plSrch Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

With just the filter by itself and no other flow mods (exhaust, intake manifold, header etc) it won't make a noticeable difference in performance. The sound may change though.
Keep in mind I haven't installed that filter, but I'm basing my comments off of mine and others experience with a short ram intake.

Id stick with a stock filter. Its cotton and flows well for the given size.
Id remove the carbon trap in the airlid you will see more of a difference in that

If you go KN make damn sure you don't over oil it. That will oil up the wires in the MAF sensor big time!
May happen no matter how you oil it!

Not really. Given the negligible performance gains, coupled with the cost/hassle of cleaning/oiling the thing, not worth it imo. May want to look into something like an AFE washable dry filter, or just stick with disposables.

I prefer to just stick to the regular OEM paper air filters for the engine & cabin, and change them out every Spring to keep airflow maximized and allergens/dust minimized (in the case of the cabin filter). $30-35 per year total isn't unreasonable (if you install yourself) - plus Arizona is one heck of a dusty+allergen state, so best to change them out annually.

Once I accidentally drove a few miles without any air filter. Honestly, I have not noticed any difference... Speed, noise... nothing.
Of course I have put the filter back immediately after I realized my fault. After all, we all know how the air filter looks after some time. But now I know that it does not make sense to get any "more breathable filter". They usually cost a lot more and they make no difference for me. |
