There is a movie on Hulu.com that's about the Shinsengumi. "When the Last Sword is Drawn." Unfortunately they lost.
http://www.hulu.com/search?query=Whe...Sword+Is+Drawn The Shinsengumi was a mercenary group formed by the Shogun to prevent the Emperor from getting control of the country. This was the twilight of the Edo Period and the dawn of the Meiji Era, 1870's. Japan was put in isolation since 1615 by the Tokugawa Shogun and Admiral Perry, 1853, from America forced Japan to open its door to trade. This brought on the realization by the Emperor that Japan was living in the 1600's and the world had advanced. The people called the Shinsengumi the "Wolves of Mibu." Some called them assassins. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinsengumi Last edited by yaris-me; 10-04-2009 at 12:05 PM. |
